I see the brilliance.....

Postby Forrest747 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 11:17 pm

I can see the briliance in the curved hatch. it gives you soo much headroom, from lifting the bottom up 6 feet that you can walk under it and not have to worry about hitting your head, as you go into the galley. I have a flat hatch and have to crouch under.

I have never owned a coleman or gas lantern. I can see the advantages to one for sure. I may or may not invest in one. well see but the idea does intrigue me and i guess with anything there is a group that enjoys something in life. I am sure there is a forum for earhtworms yet not looking for it. and since those are popular with campers this is a good place. i may or may not get into dutch oven i just dont know. trying to keep it simple.

speaking of dutch ovens they do sound good to me also
I once saw a TV show where the host went around to the campers in the camp site
asking for one item to add to a campground all's invited cookout
he used a dutch oven seemed every one ate very well.

Me too..... Cooked the biscuits in the dutch oven with coals from the campfire. Placed them in a covered pan near the fire.

Browned the sausage in the same dutchoven over the campfire then drained and held the sausage with the biscuits browned the flour in the sausage renderings to a golden brown and added the milk. Tossed in the sausage and moments later breakfast was served.

No propane, no butane ,no electricity, just one pan, a dutch oven!

It made my baked pork tenderloin that evening with the veggies cooked along with it. Still one pot ,no propane, no butane, no electricity. Hell not even any charcoal brickettes just coals from the campfire.

one I made at home !

How is that for keepin' it simple ?

Cool it Bob...I'm on a diet.

Seriously, I didn't think I was going to use a dutch oven, mostly because of the weight and space to carry it, but after seeing your pictures, I am going to have to rethink that decision.

I took 2 dutch ovens my little bean pot and my 10" spider skillet and that was all I cooked with all weekend. There is a toaster oven in one of the pics , it was never used! I left the 2 burner cook top home and never looked back. I have helped 3 of our group to get the hang of d.o. cooking and they are getting better than me! :applause:

I love my dutch oven. We bought ours for camping but we use it at home quite a bit now. Its like having a bbq in that you cook outside, but you have way more options in what you can cook.
