Planning my Tear

Postby geochris35 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 11:49 pm

Alright, my wife is now on board and seems almost as excited as I am. We put together a list of the things we want in our tear and have come up with this list. I am planning on using the 5x8 basic benroy design from this site, but adding a water tank and hand pump, no sink, we will just turn it out over the edge of the counter when we need water, and back in when we are traveling. Did I miss anything or is any of this overkill. I will order my trailer on Aug 15th! Can't wait.

:D

Things we Need in Trailer

Water - Hand pump overhanging with inward turn

Electrical -
Roof Fan / vent
Two Reading lights in cabin
Normal Plug in for tv or dvd in comparments above feet
Plug in - in Deck Overhead Comparments - normal and 2 usb ports
1 Plug in - in Galley
Side Porch Light

Insulated walls and roof

Aluminum Cover - No Paint

Are you going to have a refrigerator or A/C? Might need extra outlets for those. May want to put a 12V recepticle both in the galley and inside the sleeping compartment. A battery charger will also need access to power if you are going to have one.

When I built mine, I had to be about 20 steps ahead in the planning stages to where I was in the building phase. The reason is the space is so small that every inch literally counts. So I had to have the refrigerator before I could build the cabinets, the air conditioner before I built the galley etc. It paid off though because i got everything I wanted and everything fits.

Good luck with your build!

I too like having water be it in my travel trailer when I had one or in the tent.
During the winter drive to Florida I often took along a 2 gallon or 5 gallon jug of water
the kind that has a built in spigot, that way I didn't need to carry water in the tank.
once set up at a campground I would sit the jug on the counter with the spigot hanging over the sink.
since you say you're not having a sink would something like that work for you?

no matter what you decide sounds like you're on your way to a fine trailer.

You might want to check out our build and how we handled water. We have the kind of water container with a spigot as well, but it is on a sliding tray behind a door. Just open the door, slide out the tray and you have water. I put a pan on the ground and I don't even have to hold the pan while it is filling. I love these feature way more than I ever thought I would. No plumbing necessary and no pumping. Gravity feed water.

Oh and you can take the container out to fill it, no need to carry a water hose. If we we boo docking of a length of time we coul even switch out a extra one when we use up the first if there is no water around to refill.

You might want to consider another 12 v plug in in the cabin, or maybe two. We have one for recharging the cell phone and iPod and one for our 12v/. 110 convertible tv. You may not have one noe, but better to build it in case you ever want one, since mentioned having a tv/ DVD player. They are really nice for rainy cold nights.

If your doing usb ports i think that would be fine, no need for extra 12v.
how big of a water tank are you thinking i went with 10 gallons.
Dont forget the battery and where its going.
to keep it light and warm 1/8th inch side panels 3/4 inch interior with insulation and then 1/8th interior
some insulate the bottom i dont see the need due to the mattress
roof is 1 1/2 thick with insulation
just from my mistake make sure the cabinets are big enough for your pots pan plates and cups.
spot for the cooler or fridge
Curved rear hatch.
Get the blue insulation stay away from the white insulation
looking forward to the build.

Thanks for all the tips everyone,

I am going over the list of outlets with my wife to see if we want to add one or two more inside the cabin. Almost everything we have is powered through usb so I think if we get those two in we should be good to go as long as we have one for the tv and one in the galley. I really like the water system you have set up. Im trying to keep it as simple as possible and that looks like a good idea. The only question I had was have you found that you miss the space in the galley that it takes up? I was only doing the faucet because I was hoping to have a tank that is stored under the trailer to give us a little more storage. Also, how many gallons of water does it hold? I was hoping to be able to take at least 7 gallons.

Cheers,
Chris

Not sure who you are talking to about water so I will answer. I don't have a cooler or fridge. So no I don't. Miss the space. :). I wanted easy access to water over cooler. We have a shelf that inserts On the side with a little receiver to hold the food ice chest.
