Interesting new TV Mount: could work well in a Teardrop

Postby burlesot » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:15 am

I saw this new TV mount today. I thought it could be an interesting way to mount a TV in a teardrop, or even in your home if you like. What do you think?

Here is the link to the company that makes them; there are several new images there too:

Looks like a neat idea...but a 30" screen that close to your face?

It is neat how you can fold it away.
I could see using it with a smaller screen.

Rob,
I didn't pay attention to the size. Yes, 30" would make your eyes cross. Would be nice if you could get one for a 15" or so. Neat concept.

Interesting, but I'm too cheap to pay $750.00 for a mount. (did I read that right?). It does look cool for someone going for the money is no object style of decor.

There's an old Rule-of-Thumb in the A/V World that you want to sit ~4x away in inches the diagonal size of the Video Screen. This has changed over time to more like ~3x that ratio in inches. So, for an imaginary 40" Screen you'd want to sit either 160" away or ~120" away. The thinking is that you don't want your Eyes 'racing' all over the Screen from being 'too close', but you still want to absorb all the action.

If one sprung for a high end Laptop [my preference] with a 15" Screen, you could sit ~45" away and still absorb all the Movie or Video action. No pricey TV Mount needed. Some folks are buying large, >Terabyte Drive Laptops and putting all their Music and Video on those. They also come with TV Tuner 'Cards' to serve as a high end Digital TV/Audio Source as well.

The irony is that I will not have a TV in my teardrop. Just a little shelf for a laptop to play the occasional movie. I just thought the design was cool.
