Weighed my 4 x 9 tear

Postby Lgboro » Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:11 pm

Left mid day Monday on a cross country trip from coastal NC to San Diego. I'm out in the Arizona desert spending the night in another truck stop like the previous 2 nights. It's so hot right now I decided to not make side trips until the return trip in September. My tear trip is so well insulated I can barely hear the generators of the hundred or so Semi's in the parking lots I have stayed at. Tonight I weighed my 4 x 9 on a certified truck scale and came in at 1020 #s with a full load of gear in tow. With an 80 watt solar panel, installed pet cool, HDTV, radio/cd, 13 inch wheels, and cooking slide out with dishes -------I was well pleased. I'M also loaded with gear for a six plus week trip.

Pulled the mountains on the way and only dropped to 5 gear one time (6 speed manual). TV is an '11 VW Jetta Diesel. Towed at interstate speeds of 65 to 80 mph without issue. Honestly could have forgotten the tear was in tow it towed so easily.

That's great. Which tear did you build? I looked at your album but couldn't figure which you built. I weighed mine a week or so ago and came in at 1160, 5 x 9.5 Weekender. My jeep knows its back there but still pulls easily. Anyway I'm glad yours pulls easily. Good luck and happy trails. Larry

Do you have any pics of your kitchen slide out? Is this slide out to the side in lieu of a galley?

I have pics of my slide out cook cabinet but my main computer is down and I'm working from a netbook. Pics a way too large to post here until I resize and put into my album if I can figure out how with the new forum.

I did choose to build the slide out instead of a galley. I will install my petcool in a slide out opposite the cook station as soon as I can find a thermostat that is compatible. Right now I'm on the road for about 6 weeks or so from NC to San Diego. If you pm me your email address I will be happy to send you a couple of pics of my slide out.
