We hope to turn it into a guest trailer for summer visitors passing thru the Okanangan Valley.

Hi Vedette/Brian,

That Westfalia should be right up your alley - steel unit construction and all.
I read some where it used 'corrugated galvanized steel' in the body structure.

When you get around to doing it, Google Image "Westfalia Wohnwagen" and go
off the links from the images - you can find some interesting info that way.

Here are some Westfalia Wohnwagen links I got today from today's images::::

This first one has a lot of pics:
[Note: A lot of the later pics have some fish-eye lens distortion but are still usefull.]

http://23views.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=116

A larger Model:

A Register for Westfalia caravans/wohnwagens and van-conversions, see all 3 pages:

http://www.westfalia-register.org/wr_po ... _15_1.html

A few pics of a 1957 model, it looks like yours:

An older one, just for grins, with transverse leaf springs as spring and axle:

A 1957 Westfalia:

German ebay listing with pics:

The restyled 1964 Westfalia Wohnwagen brochure:

VW enthusiast Web Site with some Westfalia pics on this thread

From this Web Site:

An interesting independent suspension Westfalia evidently used on some models:

A source for the rubber spring in this version :

http://www.anhaenger24.de/shop/anhaenge ... a-800.html

This Web Site says that Westpahlia started in the mid 1800s, patented a ball-type hinge in 1931,
and built their first wohnwagen in 1935. They also built various kinds of commercial trailers and truck bodies too.
[The Web Site's in German, but I use Chrome as a browser and have windows 7, I can right click and
choose 'Translate to English', and most Web Sites will translate, it just depends on the Web Site.]

A different Westfalia Trailer: [A Funeral Trailer.]:

1960 Westfalia Wohnanhanger [Wohnwagen] brochure:

Here's a modern Westfalia Wohnwagen with independent suspension too:

http://www.oldiecaravan.de/Hersteller_A ... _1996.html

The second attachment in the first post by haebbi shows a tandem axle set up with independent
leading and trailing arms:

Two different 1957 Westfalia brochures [body looks like the 1962] Nice interior pics in first one:

http://www.oldiecaravan.de/Hersteller_A ... spekt.html

!958 Westfalia brochure [ditto] :

I guess I got on a roll with these ! ! ! Just file it away for future reference.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

But you left out the Westfalia teardrops - admittedly these were ever only baggage trailers, but they are pretty:

And then there's what looks like if might be a small camping trailer - but it's actually a hearse trailer:
