Lenghtwise bed question...

I have started gathering parts for a small standie in the neighborhood of 58" x 10ish feet (double xl bed) built partially over the wheels. I have struggled in the design process with the bed being lengthwise and the door at the end of the bed. Does anyone have a tear (rear door) or tiny trailer with the bed configured this way? What are the issues involved with the lengthwise bed without a center door? Would you build or buy that way if you built or bought again? I would think it would be difficult to make the bed but I guess it is doable. I just want to add a composting toilet, a one burner smooth top cook top on a small counter, a small DC refrigerator and be able to stand up to change clothes. I may not start the build until next winter depending on whether I have to have a surgery and stay home or make a planned trip to Alaska and be on the road most of the summer. I hope I'm in Ak. but still need to firm up my tiny trailer plan either way so I can start my build the moment time and money permit.

My off road capable trailer is 8' long. As a compromise I made the interior height about 5'3"and the interior width is around 5'3" also. The bed is lengthwise and is over the wheel wells as well. I used a single RV door that I cut down and it is mounted at the front of the trailer on the passenger side. The bed folds in the middle and can be used as a 2 person couch when folded and is 6' long when extended. It is easy for either the wife or I to exit and in the morning I can sit on the edge of the bed, get dressed and step outside. I am 5' 10" so I can,t stand up straight while inside but that is not a problem. When I built the trailer my tow vehicle was a lifted Jeep Cherokee and I wanted something no wider than my vehicle because I travel into remote areas. If I redo the trailer I will keep the same interior height but will make the width a bit larger, it would be nice to be able to sleep across the trailer although it it nice to pull and have it narrow and not need wider mirrors. One definite change would be length, instead of 8' - 10 or 11' would be real nice. If I could figure out some type of simple way of raising the roof when camping that would be incorporated also. I will go to photobucket and post up a picture so you can see what it looks like.

I don't know if this helps... I am working on a Cargo trailer conversion, and my bed is lengthwise. I had originally wanted to put the bed crosswise and have a seperate [outside accessible] galley at the rear. I even purchased a 6.5 wide trailer so I would have room for that.
Much of this trailers use, will be traveling to mountain bike races. I purchased the trailer not long before one of our races last August. For that I just threw in an older raised bed platform and mattress [from a van set up we once had]. This particular race.. was a 24 hour race.. and my wife and I were each racing it solo. As a solo racer we get to set up right on the course.. so that the trailer serves as our pit area. We found having the bed lengthwise worked good. It was nice being able to access the full trailer from the rear. It also provided us with more room to transport our bikes inside this way. I ended up putting in bunk beds. The upper bunk folds up, semi out of the way.. so one can use the lower bunk as a couch also. There is of course a side door towards the front, on the passenger side. The beds are on the drivers side. There will be a clear "hallway" running front to back beside the bunks. Where the bunk is. I am building a fold out galley.
