Great camping weekend!

Postby Lonnie Mac » Wed Mar 06, 2013 7:36 pm

Me and Moonbeam had a GREAT time at Cagle Recreation Area this weekend here on Lake Conroe TX! Rented the Little Guy again. Absolutely can-not-wait to get started on the Benroy now! Every time we rent this little thing, we learn something new. This weekend turned out to be all about mattress, mattress, mattress! Gawd, I love the Little Guy, but that pithy lawn furniture thing they call a mattress was not welcomed. We knew it would be that way again, but made the phun of TD life happen around it anyway. This time we brought a foam pad to put on top, and it did a great deal in taming the concrete feel.

For those who lurk here, renting is a very fun way to fall in love with TD camping. The idea was to get Moonbeam adjusted to the thought. It didn't take long and now she is wanting me to start on the Benroy ASAP. No problem!

Still gathering things, probably in a backwards order... I know there are a lot of mattress threads on here but I was thinking about something like this for our 5 wide Benroy. I won't bog down the thread, but this may be one of the more important things. With two bad backs, camping is simply not fun if you are waking up wanting to go home.

What say ye?

In short, what a GREAT time! I have the Camp Chef oven arriving tomorrow. Can't wait to try that thing out as well.

For those wondering about the tent, well, how shall I say, that is what we call the "poop" pod... Plus it was 31 degrees! With a little electric fan heater, that tent was toasty too during the day!

Mac,
Ditto on the bad back. Check out the Spa Sensation 8" memory foam mattress at walmart.com. I had the same question as you did and someone on here turned me on to these mattresses from Wal Mart. The prices at really good and the mattress sleep as good as our Sleep Numbered bed we have at home.

Camping world is not noted for low prices.
We got ours from http://www.foambymail.com and got the 5" firm queen it works well and I am paying for some of the jobs I did with back pain, so understand your pain.

Thanks friends!

I will indeed look into these. Yep, a bad back can ruin everything. Mine was from a hang gliding accident back in the day.
