Aluminum Siding

Postby sabrown82 » Tue May 28, 2013 11:59 am

So I REALLY want vintage looking aluminum siding for my teardrop. I had been looking at Hemet Valley RV for this but I just got a quote that makes my stomach churn a bit. The problem is the shipping. I live 3000 miles away from California in the lovely state of New Hampshire. I was hoping to get the very simple 3" run style siding in white.

Do any East Coasters know of a siding fabricator/manufacturer that produces something like this out here? I'm going to look into a source based out of MI but even that maybe be too hard on the wallet for shipping. And it seems that driving out for pick up is more expensive in gas money than shipping right now....

I'd call some local suppliers and ask around if anyone has a roller that they can roll coil material on for the 3" break. I found a local guy...it still wasn't cheap, but I had no shipping on it. Doug

Doug - Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try. Called a local aluminum sheet supplier per a recommendation from George Taylor. Had to leave a message because I couldn't call during the work day. We'll see what they say. Here's to hoping.

Len - Thanks for the tutorial! I had no idea one could do it themselves. I guess I just don't know how you'd do it with an 8' aluminum brake if you need a 10' sheet. I don't really want to piece together multiple sheets of siding, do I? It also seems like an awful lot of work. How long do you think it would take to bend up two 4x10 sheets? I think I would be afraid I'd mess up the sheeting, too. I don't really have the money to make mistakes the first time around.

Anyone else have any sort of ideas as to where I could get this kind of product on the east coast? :eyebrows:

Try this place. http://www.all-rite.com/48-aluminum-p-53.html

It is closer to you and also looks like they offer the exact same stuff that Hemet Valley does. Wonder if Hemet Valley gets there stuff from them?

If necessary, Home depot rents 10' Trim Brakes, and with a 10' Brake you can make a 10' 6" piece of siding.

Once you get in the rhythm you can make, not make and install a trailers worth of siding in a half a day.

Happy Trails

I used salvaged siding off a very old trailer when I rebuilt a 1946 Kit tear, if you don't mind rivets and want to go old skool, look at pics below:

A year later it still looks like day one, and a lot of off-road use.
