Looking for a new camp stove

We ar starting to look for a new camp stove. Out 13 yr old coleman grill stove is annoying me. And yes it is propane. The grill is warped and is no longer available as a replacement part. I hate not being able to turn down to low. I have a very nice one burner (thanks wolfarmer) that is gas, but our work horse will still be propane. Dual fuel or coleman fuel type will not fit in the storage spot. So that being said, anyone have a campchef ranger? Or a camp chef everest? Or stansport with 25k burners? Those are top three all, although non of them are coleman green to match my decor.

While not green, I have the Coleman grill/stove and love it. 2/3rds of it is a grill or griddle (extra attachment), with a one pot burner on the left. I find that I'm more likely to grill than cook when camping, so this works very well. I can't remember if Amazon had it in another color than Red.

After looking at reviews, and trying to find a used Coleman on Craigslist (no luck there!), we went with a Camp Chef Everest (Amazon.com). We bought the connector that is recommended for it so we could use my nifty, smaller 11 pound tar weight propane tank. (Didn't want to haul a big 20 pounder around, or use those little green tanks).

We've tried it out on the patio, used a cast iron pan to cook steaks and made a pot of coffee with my camping percolator, was happy with how it performed. It took a bit of trial and error to find the "low" setting without actually turning the burner off. We're going to take "Solitude" out for her maiden voyage on Wed., and will be using the stove---will let you know how it goes (will try cooking some other stuff, perhaps some stir fry).

For space considerations, the stove is 24 inches wide, too wide for our 22 1/2 inch pull out shelf, but it fits the long way after the shelf is pulled out. I have to store it elsewhere in the galley. We will be reconfiguring the stock galley shelving to fix that problem and some other issues, we want to take the camper out a time or two to get a feel for what we'll need.

My new magic chef is fantastic I just got it plumbed in Thursday night.

It is the 42" with optional storage drawers and removable little feet to make it shorter.

Overton.com has a nice stainless stove with a low profile for $100. And it has attachments you can buy for it.

I'm planning to use the Camp Chef Ranger Blind Stove. I liked it in part because it is narrow, and in part because I've used similar cast iron stoves in a number of cabins and they always worked great.

Is there a shortage of Colman Stoves in the USA.
You can buy them in almost any configuration at most of our big box stores here in Canada and they are relatively cheap.

What's even better is that there is no shortage of vintage Coleman stoves, sometimes in mint condition, and usually for a song. And they are built much better (and in the U.S. of A.) than the ones that they are selling nowadays. Once we decided that was what we wanted we had found three of them in record time (two double burners and a single burner 502). Two were pretty much mint, except the pump gasket had dried out in one of them and had to be replaced. Only one of them needed some clean up. I don't think we paid more than $25 for any of them. No explosive propane to deal with either. Ditto for our Coleman lanterns. We found 3 of those, one of them (a turd) was in a case, had never even been fired, with spare mantles, and I think we only paid $20-$25. We have already used the lanterns and the stove during an extended power outage (we have those a lot) so we are extremely pleased we have them. Go Coleman!!!

Okay. I really ought to fire it up just see how it sizzles. But it looks cool in any case.

Here's the problem with coleman (gasp, did i say that?). The storage space for the stove will not fit a white gas stove, plus the husband doesn't like fiddling with them (say it ain't so). Plus we have two, one fairly new and one great vintage, single burner coleman white gas stoves for the times we want or need them. So propane it is. However, one of the reasons i want a new stove is my current coleman can not be adjusted easily, especially medium to low flame. I initially was going to purchase a new coleman, but the reviews are horrible, all with the same problem as my ten year old stove. I also would like a little more BTUs. So other than it they coleman green, which is perfect with the decor, I pretty much have myself talked out of coleman.

Mike, the coleman frypan won't work for us. I need a big two burner stove. Camping is my favorite place to cook and I want a stove to be able to do it right. A big batch of happy camper breakfast or porkchops and apples will only fit in my 12" workhorse of a cast iron skillet.
