So the next obvious choice would be propane. Looked at those small round catalytic heats... naaa.
Then I thought about the little "Mr. Heater" we use to preheat the trailer on cold nights. The protective wire grate on the front easily folds down and out of the way. Using some scrap Stainless sheet, a length of aluminum welding rod and a coupla machine screws/nuts I fashioned my 'toaster' as you can see below. After a bit of trial and error I got it dialed in and can now make a pretty acceptable (camping rules) piece of toast that does not break like a saltine cracker. By keeping 'the other side' up against that SS sheet, the moisture, to some degree does not escape. And no 'diminishing returns' here... took about an hour and 0 bucks to make!
An added plus is... Since my bride 'owns the kitchen', and is easily irritated by my presences in it when she is preparing food, I can 'do the toast' and not be underfoot!
