Building a Teardrop in the UK

Postby Marinefish71 » Sat Jul 13, 2013 6:15 am

Hi all,

After reading about trailer regulations in the UK . I need to find out as much information with regards to me building my own teardrop from scratch including chassis.

Can any UK teardroppers enlighten me to if i am allowed to do this and what type of chassis can i use, also can i build my own chassis. ?

I do have an old trailer chassis but this has turned out to a six foot trailer extended to a 8 footer. Not the best welds on the extension part so thinking of scrapping and starting again.

I really would like to build my own chassis but im hearing rumours this might not be allowed..

Any information would be appreciated..

You would be better to ask on the UK teardrop forum TCGB: http://www.tcgb.org.uk/

The IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) doesn't start for one-off 'special purpose' trailers until 29 October 2014. Caravans and trailers equipped for camping count as 'special purpose', so get it built quick and you don't need anything (other than complying with the current Construction & Use regulations).

Would be great If I could register on the UK forum but on registering it asks a question "Who is RG from the office?"
If you don't know this answer you cant register and I cant find anywhere that refers to a RG person..
Very frustrating..

Well, I asked the question on the UK forum and the answer is/was Ricky Gervais. However another question has been added instead - the forum admin tried to do without a 'Brit checker' question and in a few hours got loads of mostly Russian spammers (which is why the question got put back).
