Your best bet is to not have water in it... ;)

Seriously though, most of the campers that we've taken with us on our winter excursions we don't put water in the main tank. We'll keep one of the handy blue cubes with water either in the tow vehicle, or on a larger trailer, inside with us. Far less danger of it freezing and busting your plumbing.

There are water tank heaters made for RV's but obviously they require 120 AC to power or a LOT of 12V http://www.modmyrv.com/2008/07/17/rv-ho ... ating-pads

Slow, Nancy would strongly disagree with you  Having running water and hot running water means clean up is as easy as it is at home.

Carrying a months (last years trip) or eight days (this years north of Superior trip) worth of dishes etc...
We do not use disposable/paper plates... because of our wilderness camping experience, pack it in pack it out.

Store your water bottles in a good cooler and place a couple of heated water bottles among them, you will need something to heat water with of course, stove, pan, open fire, car engine.

I have used this little heater when I traveled with a VW bus

If you add Everclear http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everclear_(alcohol) to your water it will lower the freezing point. Here is a chart that shows the percentages and the freezing points associated with em:

Ya gotta be careful about open flames around water treated this way and you can't drink too much of your water at one time w/o side effects (you should not give any water thus treated to those under 21 either) but it does work well for a number of tasks and will protect your water from freezing.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

That's odd. I normally add water to my Everclear. Who knew I had it backwards?
