good deal on trailer?

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a rotten pop up for $250 tomorrow. It would buy me not only my trailer which I was trying to keep under 200 bit also an rooftop AC and other parts I could reuse. I am going to have to drive a ways to check it out, so any tips in advance on if its a good breakers or what to look for would be great.

The biggest thing is to figure out how much it will cost to recondition/pickup the trailer you are looking at. Go prepared to adjust the coupler and repack the bearings. Also understand that you may need to replace a bearing. Is the trailer somewhere that you can get parts close by? If the cost of getting the trailer home is going to be too high, the extra stuff may not add enough to the value to be worth not buying a new trailer. The other thing to think about is the age and condition of the axle if it is a torsion axle. If it is worn enough to require replacement, all your economizing was for nothing. Look for tire rub marks in the wheel wells. That will give you a good idea of axle condition. If you see any, I would consider it a wasted trip. That is all just me though. Others will think differently.

I think you need to look closely at the design of the frame - at least if you want to build a conventional teardrop. Lots of pop-up frames pictured here have their wheels inside the frame, so there is nothing sensible you can do to narrow the frame to the width of a teardrop. No problem if you want a 80" wide teardrop, but in many cases it would be easier to start again on a new frame than be able to narrow it to 60" or less.

Happy to say I got a good deal on a utility trailer. No torsion, no wheels in the way, but no a/c thrown in either.

How do you change a tire with a frame like that?
