I'm buying one of these...

Postby wincrasher » Tue Aug 06, 2013 8:44 am

I'm placing an order for one of these:

www.crickettrailer.com

I think the design is cleaver and looks like a very flexible platform for biking, kayaking, and hiking trips.

I like the v-berth model in green. Not getting the AC or the refer - I have my own.

They ain't cheap, but what really is these days.

I've seen these -- quite an ingenious design, and good for outdoor adventures!

Ugly, ugly trailer IMHO.

Before you pay new price, there is one of these listed used in the For Sale, Not Mine section here. Less than a year old, if I remember right.

Odd it is, but that is part of the appeal.

Order is placed - should be 4-5 weeks before it is ready to be picked up.

I love those! Designed with no pre conceived notions it seems. Not trying to replicate your living room; just a pure, functional design.

I would like to see one in person, I think they could be very nice if not a little on the odd side as far as looks. Yet I still find it appealing.

I saw one of these in my tiny NW Florida town this past weekend, I was star struck. It was cool looking, I wish I could have flagged them down to take a look. They were headed east out of Pensacola towards Tallahassee. Maybe someone on here?

I like it. Especially the windows.

The sofa turns into a bed as easily as the one in my VW.

Hopefully all works out and I can give you guys a report in about a month or so.

I'm getting the v-berth model with all the storage compartments under the bed/seating. Figured that was a more practical setup for me.

I like the styling - could end up being a timeless look, much like our teardrops. Looks to me you could easily paint them down the road if you get bored with the color, or have it vinyl wrapped.

I like that they are marketing these as essentially sports equipment. They are not trying to be an RV company as far as I can tell. My primary use will be as a basecamp for my kayaking and biking trips.

Built to order, no inventory. Price is fixed, no negotiation. Because of the laws in Texas, they can't sell direct, so they have a dealer you can work with. I detest RV dealers (they're the scum of the earth, just below politicians), so the extent of my dealing is the payment aspect. But you can go the full monty with a dealer if that floats your boat. I'll pick up direct at the factory. Any minor issues I can deal with myself, as this thing is so simple. I ordered my teardrop directly from Little Guy a couple years ago as the local dealer was an a-hole. That worked out great and they delivered to my door. Cricket still hasn't figured delivery out - was quoted $2.50 a mile to deliver - no thanks. Too bad they can't sell thru Amazon or something like that.

I like the original thinking in its design and functionality.

Let's just call its looks as "Singular"...

I will be following your postings on your experience(s) in this new
adventure.

Why not do a road trip to pick it up ? That should sure beat $2.50 a mile
for delivery...

Cheers,

I think it's cool. When the Honda Element came out, I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. When I realized how USEFUL they were, I ended up buying one and keeping it for eight years. I see this as being very cool and useful for the outdoor minded individuals. Please let us know how it works when you receive it.

I plan on making a road trip out of it. But where to stop? Need some stopover ideas between Greenville, SC and Houston, TX. I'm sure there are many cool places. I spent several years in the Houston area, so I don't really want to spend any time there or on Galveston. Never been to New Orleans, so that may be a possibility.

Good to hear you'll be making immediate use of it by
picking it up yourself !

I don't have any specific recommendations as far as
campgrounds go, just a couple sight-seeing suggestions.

Natchez, MS and longwood [Nutt's Folly]:

Also, Oak Alley Plantation, in Vacherie, Louisiana, along the Mississippi River
[On the way to New Orleans] :

These both have been on my "List To See" list for that part of the country.

If you have the time, these should be interesting - if you enjoy architecture
and history. Maybe you could zig-zag the route some to include them.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo
