Who owns 2 or more trailers?

Postby Sarge » Fri Aug 09, 2013 12:09 pm

I find myself lusting after several travel trailers - each one unique. Do you own more than one TD or travel trailer, and if so, how does your significant other feel about it? How do your justify it in your own mind? TD and TTT owners, I would think, are minimalists by nature so having more than one is philosophically duplication and excess, but I bet several of you do have more than one.

thanks,

Sarge

Don't "should" on yourself, there are plenty of others who will "should" on you for no reason. Accept what you did and move on. Life is too short.

I acquired a second camper (1961 Apache Eagle pop-up tent trailer) back in March with the best intentions of using it, but my teardrop is so much more convenient. Still have yet to take the old Apache out for a night.

Since I haven't used it, I've been considering parting ways with it. But its in great shape and so cool I really don't want to.

 Would you believe.... Four? '48 Vagabond, '53 Zollinger, '61 Shasta and a '71 Mallard. The Mallard is used as a storage shed for spare trailer parts and tools, no title for it.

'73 Starcraft popup bought in 1978, '46 Modernistic teardrop bought & restored 2007, '84 Uhaul fiberglass camper bought 2011, 1980 Coleman Versa utility trailer that had camper canvas as an option but we don't have, '46 Bantam trailer which is the civilian version of the WW2 jeep trailer, not a camper but has a canvas top and we used it to haul camping gear and it's been in the family since new. Also own 4 other various utility trailers, one of them a Chevy pickup box on a '37 Ford axle. Now I've lost count!

Never considered myself a minimalist, just acquire/use whatever seems appropriate for what I'm doing at the time. Besides the TD built in 2006 we own a 32' 5th wheel Mallard (lived in it for a # of years), a 1976 Trillium 13' molded fiberglass trailer that needs a rebuild, a 1985 Scamp 13' molded fiberglass trailer that I'm in the process of rebuilding, a 1995 SunLite pop-up, pick up cabover camper on my old Ford diesel P/U (it's my deer camp & our early spring crappie fishing camper), & a 1995 Starcraft Meteorite 817 pop-up camp trailer that I just finished 're-habbing' (it'll be my camper for solo weekend hunting/fishing trips around Arkansas & adjoining states). None of 'em eat anything when not being used, they're old enough not to require comprehensive insurance, & they all have a specific purpose in our life. Arkansas issues a permanent license tag for trailers & doesn't require any kind of registration/title for the P/U camper, & they're all old enough that they're assessed at pretty much the minimum for personal property tax so it don't cost much to keep 'em around. Had a couple more but they're providing fun for other folks now...

I have my eye open for a second one, like to have it available for when my kids decide to join me. With three little ones (3 year old and 6month old twins) money is a bit tight for my daughter. keep thinking if I could find a usable old pop up they could haul it with their mini van, all she wants is to sleep off the ground. Til then just one. (I am the wife its the husband I need to convince lol)

Three finished, one in the works and two in the wings

If you get a second one, tell your wife that it's going to be for her.

I only have room for three. A 1956 Dalton (standy), a 1962 Scotsman (teardrop) and a 1981 (DMV says 71) Burro (egg). :?

I've got 3 at the moment.

The one in front is now finished and I hope to get rid of one of them soon.
