Favorite Camp Chair?

Postby ejoness » Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:12 am

We're looking to replace our folding nylon chairs after this last camping trip. Anyone know of a great chair?

My wife is on the short side, and doesn't like the way our chairs cut off leg circulation. We don't want a heavy "lazy-boy" option -- just something light and comfortable.

My opinion... doesn't matter if you are short or tall, long legged or not; unless it is a lazyboy most camping chairs are uncomfortable after a while. What I've been using the last few years is a collapsible camp stool, the one I have happens to have 4 legs (not 3) and I got it at Cabelas. Of course, I don't see it for sale anymore. It's a great and portable foot rest, so no matter what chair you have, you can put your feet up. and it's easily adjustable, just by moving it closer or further away from the chair. :) It's also been used as a side table, and occasionally, as a stool. (usually by kids, it's their height).

For the chair I use most often, I chose it for the sun shade that was built-in, not so much for the chair itself. It's the footrest that provides longer comfort time spans.

Get a Zero Gravity Chair! They are big and heavy but very comfortable. I have never been able to find a small, light chair that is comfortable. The heavy chairs are not that bad weight wise. Besides most people only have to move it 20 feet or so from the camper/TV to the campfire.

I have the same issue because of the sciatic nerve on the legs gets too much pressure from those sagging chairs you find everywhere.
I got mine at Costco several years ago and their not available any more.
Look for chairs with a supported front like this one. It's really comfortable.
It was made by TOFASCO OF AMERICA INC.
They are rated for up to 225 pounds.

I have another chair that has similar features, I bought it at REI.
This Coleman chair has the same exact frame as the one I bought at REI. It looks the same but mine is solid black in color.
This Coleman Chair looks comfortable.

Check out the Timber Ridge chairs. We got couple from Costco. The ones we got, weigh about 4 pounds and fold to about 4". They also have a fold out side tray with cup holder that is very handy. We think there are the most comfortable fold up camp chair out there. I'm over 6' & 200 lbs and the wife isn't, and we have no problem with the chairs cutting off leg circulation.
They might also be available at Sam's Club, they seem to have a lot of the same things found at Costco.

I prefer a "directors chair" style ...

... it takes a little looking around to find them, but they seem to sit more upright and don't press on the back of your legs.

The Pico chair. Folds up to the size of a laptop. Google or look on amazon.

Not perfect, they could use a headrest. Then they would be perfect. 8)

Harbor freight sells chairs like that. So does Wal-Mart.

My favorite camp chair is the Australian Squatters Chair. These are so comfortable you never want to get up from using one. They fit anywhere once you get the knack of folding them up and you will take one with you always. I have one half built and will soon be ready to go.

Kermit- The holy grail of camp chairs. I'd get one but they're so gosh darn expensive. $> $200 fully equipped.

I like a standard height beach chair. Aluminum frame with canvas or even the old style webbing. The main thing is standard chair height.

Kody,

Interesting chair.

For us yanks, here are some stationary examples:

Do you have a folding/collapsible design for it ?

Cheers,
