Planning

Postby Gizzmo » Fri Nov 15, 2013 12:38 pm

I still have a lot of planning to do but this is what I have come up with so far.
 A 4 x 8 Harbor freight trailer, Half inch treated and sealed plywood floor, plastic soffit( outer covering) with three-quarter inch foam board with Poplar framing covered with 1/8 inch luan on the inside, for the side and ceiling.
Poplar framing for the galley, 3/4 inch bottom shelving with 1/4 inch for sides and doors of the cabinets. Really trying to keep it under 600 lbs.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How thick are the sides? It's one thing trying to make it lite but not at the sake of structural integrity. Depending on what you want, you can go with thicker sides and still loose the weight by cutting out the unnecessary sections of wood and filling it with light weight insulation.

Total Wall thickness should be close to 1 1/8 inches - quarter inch for the plastic soffit three quarters of an inch for the Styrofoam outlined with Poplar three-quarter inch one by twos and 1/8 inch luon on the inside all laminated together. Please let me know if you think that this won't work I never even heard of a TD before last week, but I have been studying hard from all the brilliant minds on this site. So please let me know if you don't think this will work

You could go with 1.5" walls and turn the poplar 1x2's on their side, gain strength and insulation and only add a little bit of weight. Have you seen Kc's build? He is building the same way you described but using 1.5" foam. If I built a foam hybrid, I would copy his build. I'll get the link to his if you haven't seen it.

For some reason I couldn't copy the link on my phone - viewtopic.php?f=55&t=48630
His build is very well planned out and very, very detailed. It will take you a while to read the whole thing and he is still not finished.
