Storage tips and tricks

Postby KissyLiz » Tue Nov 19, 2013 1:15 am

I bought a home made teardrop and am upgrading from tent camping to my new trailer. The galley is pretty much just a couple of shelves at the moment. Currently all my gear is crammed into a makeshift chuck box which consists of a large plastic tote filled with a few sets of plastic drawers. I'm looking for any tips, tricks or ideas to help me get the most out of the space in my galley.

I am considering using the plastic drawer containers that I already have in my existing chuck box by screwing the bases to the shelves so they don't slide around while I am on the go, but i need a way to keep the drawers closed. (Perhaps a bungee cord?) I already mounted a paper towel holder on the hatch and I am planning on using some cup hooks placed on the hatch as well as a way to store a few dish towels (with grommets to hang by). Since my hatch doesn't have an inside skin, I figure I can use that space for storage, just so long as I don't put too much stuff on it, and as long as the items aren't heavy (paper towels, dish towels, spices, etc.).

Please, please, please share your storage tips and tricks with me. I've been scanning through the forums looking for ideas, and I can always use more inspiration! I'm sure others would enjoy having some great new storage ideas for their galley and other areas of their tiny trailers.

Thanks! :)

Dear Liz

Your galley sounds like mine. The plan was to use plastic containers and a bungee. Cupboard doors with hinges like a normal door, would mean the whole worktop would need to be clear to open a cupboard.
With doors where the hinge is at the top, it has less impact on the work top.

I'm looking at adding plastic boxes underneath the Td. Imagine the ceiling in the picture is the underside of the floor of TD.
These boxes would travel inside the TD or in the car and then put in place when on site.
