Hey, Paul!
You really don't need offsets! Can you get your hands on an overhead projector ... oblique or transparency? For an oblique, just print out the image and put it on the projector bed, turn it on and adjust the distance away from the wall (or the sheet of plywood) until it fits the length you want, then trace it out. If it's a transparency projector, take the image to a copy shop and have a transparency made, then set it up the same way as the oblique. I do this all the time, and it gets me exactly what I want every time!
