Been wanting to build a tear drop for awhile but want a place to sit inside and eat when weather is crappy. Then thought use a futon and am wondering if anyone has used one in there teardrop

No, but great idea.

A while back I bought a futon mattress online. I was fascinated to see that there are sitting futons and sleeping futons. Regardless, all were made to fold at some time - which will make getting it in the TD much easier.

Also, as I was looking at TDs I was serious for a while about the boxy looking Runaways. I remember that someone built a 12 inch high platform inside to house gear and put his mattress on top. Your futon could do the same.

Problems? A standard TD has a curved roofline, so you will need to accommodate the futons seat back when it is up. I also think you will need to cut the legs to a proper height and assemble it inside the TD.

Good luck.

futon

Part of the appeal of a T D is the fact the bed did not turn into a dining room table. The effort of remaking a bed from scratch has never appealed. However I've since seen ingenious below the floor box designs that have made me think about making the bed turn into seating for rainy scottish weather.
I've gone back to my no-bed-remake position after a discussion on the uk td forum regarding the event shelters that take. 10 mins to put up.

With a 15' sq event shelter (coleman) it would provide loads of space for the TD and place to sit outside the Td but under shelter. Makes cooking in the rain more enjoyable (dry) and with all the sides on, private enough to use the potty (from either door) in the middle if the night and get dressed standing up in the morning/night
.
For those of you lucky enough to live in hot climates it also provides shade, keeps the td cool(er) and a place out of the sun to sit and drink a cold one,,,,
