Spotted One of These Today - Aliner

Postby Dale M. » Tue Apr 15, 2014 9:41 pm

I spotted one of these in Mariposa Ca, today... Owners were probably off to Yosemite NP for a day trip...

Its called an "Aliner"... not really a tear drop, not really a standie, but kind of unique..

(Not the one I actually saw,but representative just the same)

I wonder if they are made by the same mfg. that made the "Lo-Liner"...same principal but cranked up to a standie.
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiot's.

Two different manufacturers of similar A-Frame design:
http://www.aliner.com/
http://www.chaletrv.com/folding-trailers/
Rockwood has one too, listed with their tent trailers:
http://www.forestriverinc.com/popupcamp ... fault.aspx

There have neen other makers over the years. I remember seeing one
done in fiberglass at a Buffalo. NY RV show in the mid 1960s. I've never been
able to find any info on that one though.

I got an Aliner to replace my 5 x 7 tear drop. It weighs about 1700 loaded. Sets up in seconds even during rain and I can stand up in it. I needed more space than a tear drop afforded. My Aliner is a 2005 with an aluminium skin. I/we like it very much.

The Aliner looks to be the best quality of this kind of trailers. No canvas to look after, but I'm assuming plenty of seals to keep an eye on.

Their website is a good read - like that they say their buyers are not the type to sit inside watching their 50" flat screens! LOL!

I've always liked the looks of an Aliner but I'm never sure about pulling something wider than my van. I love pulling my 5' wide teardrop because I can see past it easily. How different is it from pulling a 5 wide?

Here's a picture of my Chalet. Once you figure it out, they go up in no time, a couple of minutes. I think the new ones have electric lifts. I am short so was faced with carrying a step ladder to raise the roof. I got to thinking (DANGER!) and carved a notch in the end of an axe handle. I use it as an arm and push the roof up. The other elevation challenged problem is reaching the fan controls. I carry a folding step stool for that.

I really like it. I sold my Little Guy after buying the Chalet. Mine is a not so common bunk bed model..that's what the window in the bottom is for. My chocolate lab sleeps there. I was sleeping in the top bunk, but decided to make it into a counter and I sleep in the rear now. I thought I wanted a model without the box on the front, but I find that to be a wonderful thing now, and I'd recommend getting it.

I've got a sink, hot water, refrigerator with little freezer, stove top, heater and fan on it. They come with an outside shower. I've pulled the thing all over the place and plan to do a lot more.

I found a used one. That's hard to do. The thing was spotless inside and the porta potty was still wrapped up in the manufacturers plastic wrap. I pull it with 6 cylinder Ford Ranger pickup. One thing I've noticed is a change in the behavior of other drivers. Other drivers seemed to let me change lanes with my Little Guy when traffic was heavy. I think it was the Cute Factor. That doesn't happen with the ugly box being towed. Oh well. :(

My Little guy was 5 feet wide. My Chalet is a bit over 6. I can't see behind it as well, and it is heavier, so you will feel it. I'm used to it now and do all right. I think you might be able to see over the lower profile models. I think those are the ones with refrigerators, but no freezing compartment in them.

Get yourself a wireless backup camera - I got one as a kit and wired it into the license plate light. With your lights turned on, the camera is active so you can see behind going down the road. Got mine on amazon for $100.
