Doors, Trim, Hardware best prices

Postby Heyman71 » Sat Jun 07, 2014 11:06 am

Where is the best prices you have found to buy manufactured doors similar to like the Little Guy uses and many others. I believe they are made by Statewide and are actually feeder drop down windows for horse trailers.

I realize building a TD is a customize process but there are several similar key componets most TD's use. Doors, Seals, Galley Hinges, Trims, Fans, Lights, Wheels, Converters. Ebay is your friends for some stuff. One of the hardest things to do is locating the best prices on new parts and keeping the cost down to keep it affordable for the everyday budget builder who just wants to do a good job but not break the bank. Please post or PM. Thanks.

Heyman:

I bought my doors from "Frank Bear" (that's not his real name): http://teardroptrailerparts.com/Teardro ... Plans.html I like them but make sure you're sitting down when you price them. Price out door hardware first, trim, hinges, windows and latches and that may help reduce your heart attack. He's also got trim. If you buy his doors, make sure you order for your wall thickness.

You can't beat Grant's service and attitude at Lil' Bear: http://teardroptrailerparts.com/Teardro ... Plans.html In Tibet, he's refferred to as the Dalai Lama of teardrops. You can see how he builds 'em here: https://www.facebook.com/teardrops.net?ref=br_tf

I buy my trim from this guy, since he's on the way to the three hour drive to HD/Lowe's: http://teardropparts.com/index.html

I'm also a big fan of Steve Fredrick's teardrop Shop Manual: http://www.campingclassics.com/shopman05.html I've built two teardrops now using his methodology.

As I have been thinking about Maybe building. looked over many places. Some have the same thing but as much as over 500% more in price for the same thing. You have to look at shipping. If you plan to save money .Best to buy from many . "Frank Bear has the best over all price. If you take your time E bay has some good prices. Just don't think you have to have now. How long did it take to have the cash you want to spend! One E bay seller said the best place to get windows is pick and pull off the vans where the wall are 3/4" to 1"
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN,
YET AT THE SAME TIME, THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE,,, SO MAKE THE BEST OF IT WHILE YOU CAN, AND ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS

Thanks for the responses. Some good advice. After several more specific searches of the forums I have found some old threads that were useful that I had not seen before. This site has lots of great info but sifting through it can be like finding a gold nugget in a stream. My plan was to build to see how well it turns out then buy what I needed if I liked my results. Well...now I like and want it done so it gets expensive all at once. During this learning experience I would say unless you really want a product of your own creation: There are many nice TD's for sale for same money you can build or for less and you are ready to go minus the time an headaches. Don't think that is why many of us do this though. It is a fun and rewarding hobby/project. Thanks again.
