Free, now what do I do with it?

Postby teamredjeep » Sat Jun 14, 2014 5:44 pm

A friend gave me this knowing I had a Jeep trailer already and a Teardrop on order. I guess he figured I needed another trailer.

Kind of a Rat Rod, I mean Rat Trailer look. Maybe just a flat clear coat to preserve the patina. LOL

I'm sure I will figure something to do with it.

I'm really thinking old barn wood and tin cabin would be fun. Something kind of like this Image

Those little trailers come in real handy more often than not, and to me are worth their weight in gold when you need it. Mines a 1947 Spen and I have the original "Bows" for the tarp, I purchased it from the fellow that bought it brand new in 47 from the Willy's Dealer. I will pull it with my Jeep on special occasions, but mostly it makes nursery and junk runs. Handy as hell it is ImageImage

I used it to do some yard work at my grandmother's yesterday, about 60 miles round trip. I don't think this was a professionally built trailer, at least not the frame. It has some funky flat bar added to bolt tub to the frame and the lower leaf spring u-bolt plates have shock mounts but there is nothing above for shocks. Axle bearings have a little to much play in them so I know my first project will be servicing them. It would be handy for dump trips, etc, but I already have a old pick up for that. Slow your camper shell idea is kind of what my barn wood and tin thoughs were. Building on what is there, sort of a red neck refuge. Thanks Mike

Kind of cool look for a "utility trailer", If it were mine, I would keep it just as it it is.... small hard metal bed trailers are becoming harder to find.... Probably worth a few hundred on market, enough to purchase "stuff" to outfit new TD......

If it were me, I'd keep it as is, but maybe get (or build) a truck topper so I could use it as a mini-camper or protected gear hauler when necessary.
