Benroy what year model

Postby tdprice54 » Thu Jul 10, 2014 8:04 pm

I am new here and did a introduction but didn't get many responses. I have recently bought a Benroy trailer that looks to be original. It has decals on both sides they look vintage as they are aged pretty well. It has a unique 2" coupler and a neat little jack. The tongue of the trailer has been poorly extended. I bought it from a guy thats from Montana and got no title that tells the year. Is there any way to find out what year. really doesn't matter just wondering if I could figure out if it was 53,54, or 55. It needs some wood repair but very fixable. I have already started on it and enjoying doing the repairs.I plan on towing it with either my 59 buick or my 28 ford pickup. this is my 3rd teardrop and plan on using this alot in the next few years when I retire. I am looking for interior ideas but can't seem to find any on the board. I am not real computer savvy so any help in the right direction will be appreciated. I am originally from West Texas but live in southeast Texas now. Thanks for any help that comes my way.

Since the tongue was replaced/rebuilt, it's doubtful that any of the serial #s or vin #s still exist ... since there were less than 500 Benroys built between 1953 and mid-'55 when King Richard took over production, we could make a pretty good educated guess if you had a serial #. As far as I've been able to discern, they made no changes in design or construction to the production models, so a mid-'53 Benroy is essentially identical to a mid-'55. So, in essence, without documentation to prove otherwise, you can call it which ever of those years you want ... ;) ...!

Good Luck with your restoration/re-build ... and enjoy the heck out of it! As always ...

Grant thanks for the reply. I am slow to answer because I work alot of hours and get on forum when I can. I believe it is an original Benroy because when I started pulling trim there is evidence of the red paint on the bottom of the trailer. Someone before had painted the unit a dak blue. I am not trying to have a 'restored Benroy' just rying to make a nice trailer to use out of it. I have owned two others in the past and enjoyed them, but sold to friends to pull behind their hotrods. I am nearing retirement and wanted one of these trailers to start marking off items on my "bucket list". The trailer has quite abit of bad wood but I have already started replacing it. It's kind of like overhauling a motor from the tail pipe. I am going to use good quality material and make as nice as I can. Thanks again for the reply. TP

Hi,
Check this out.
Hope it helps.

What is the vin on your registration? With that, we may be able to help with the year of production.

Please post some pics. This is a rare thing and adding to the data can only help others. Adding to the archive is like paying back for questions answered.

Best of luck. And, I hope to see some pics.

Steve title is lost or misplaced hopefully to be found. I don't know how to post pictures but can email some to you if you'll give me address. The trailer still has the "Benroy" decals on each side . They taped them off when it was painted. It still has a square tag in the galley but all the paint is wore off. TP
