We do have pine beetles in Ca. but this forest is well maintained and thinned as it has a lot of recreational use. We expect an increase in the beetle kill over the next few years due to the drought which stresses the trees and makes them more likely to be hit and be unable to fight it. Currently, the photo that Debbie has shown is threatened with a large out of control forest fire, which just last night more than doubled in size to nearly 70K acres. This area has a large number of prime campgrounds and one in particular typically falls into Sunset magazines top 10 in the country. I hope it's untouched for our 7th annual camp out! Doug

Slow, what Doug said. While there are plenty of beetle kills in CA, including another of our favorite campgrounds, Donner Lake, however there is still plenty of gorgeous country in CA and NV. Much if that is threatened by the drought, causing more than 4,000 wildfires in CA alone this year. doug is watching this one from his front porch.
