Introducing High Camp Trailers to T&TT!

Postby High Camp Trailers » Mon Sep 22, 2014 10:52 pm

Hi All!
I just wanted to introduce High Camp Trailers to all the folks on this great forum. I have had a personal account here for longer than I can recall and have enjoyed all the great ideas shared here and have been inspired by the many trailers that have come to life in the posts.

High Camp Trailers has been a dream of mine for years now and a work-in-progress for more than two years. Last year, I laid the foundation for the business as I worked part-time at my regular job at a business valuation company here in beautiful Portland, Oregon. This May, I took the big leap and dedicated myself full-time to making High Camp Trailers a reality. The amount of time and energy that it has taken to build the foundation of the business has been many times what I imagined, but now that it has been laid, I look forward to building the best teardrop trailers possible for my customers.

I invite everyone to see the new http://HighCampTrailers.com website and appreciate any feedback, comments, or questions any forum members might have (there is even a Question/Comment area on the “Contact Us” page). It is a new site, so there will certainly be many improvements in the coming months. I also look forward to giving back to the T&TT community by contributing to the discussions.

Thanks to all and happy camping!
Dennis

Thanks Redneck,
I appreciate the comment. By the way, what make/year is your TD? That's an amazing polishing job!

It's a 2012 home built on the 47 Kenskill platform. Believe me mill finish is best maintenance wise.

I went to look at your site. I got a big white message block that said it does not support my browser and demanded google or firefox. I could see a couple of photo's at the bottom of the page...
:(
There are a lot of browsers out there that work quite well and comply with the current 'official' requirements. I think it would be better to warn users that their browser may not operate all the features on your site... Then let them see what they can.

Oh no, Pete.

This is really helpful for me. I built the site myself (not my specialty really), and I'm not entirely tech savvy. This really helps me- can I ask what browser you are using? Maybe there is something I can do on the backend of the website to optimize it for that particular one.

Thanks very much for your feedback.

Sadly your site chokes on Opera. What tool did you use to develop the site? Just for giggles I dropped your home page source code into Dreamweaver to have a look... The source runs 163 pages!

So I contacted my websites support and unfortunately they said they have had known issues with Opera and some earlier version of Internet Explorer. :x Supposedly they plan on addressing them, but I'm not holding my breath. I apologize to anyone who has tried to view the website with Opera!
Best,

Hey Redneck,
I thought your trailer was a Ken-Skill! A few years ago, i was approached by the Oregon Historical Society to build a "reproduction" of a vintage teardrop trailer for a permanent exhibit in their main gallery called "Oregon: Mine, Yours, Ours". I thumbed through all my vintage trailers books and picked the Ken-Skill from the Ready to Roll book by Douglas Keister! Their budget was really small, so I couldn't do a faithful reproduction, but used some old salvaged parts from trailers from the early 50s to get a reasonable likeness of the Ken-Skill. It is prominently displayed in the museum in downtown Portland, Oregon and I invite anyone in town to go and check it out.
I wrote about it in the What's New section of the website (our "Blog" really). You can see the pictures of the original and pictures of the reproduction in the exhibit at http://HighCampTrailers.com/whats-new

Happy Camping!

Hi again everyone-

I just wanted to update you all that due to an existing Tradename registration for the "Basecamp" name by Airstream, we have had to change the name of our company to High Camp Trailers! While I was disappointed at first to see that Airstream had renewed it existing Tradename registration with the US Patent and Tradename Office (something we had been watching and believed that they would let expire in less than a month), I believe that our brainstorming led us to an even better name, with less confusion regarding the old, failed Airstream Basecamp trailer. We are keeping our logo the same and have updated the website for the name change.

As always, I appreciate any comments or questions!
Best,
Dennis

Never heard of Wolfs-head, but I'm guessing some big oil company is keeping it alive!

I had always loved the Basecamp name, because to my wife and I, it described perfectly how we used our teardrop...we would find a campground that was central to some of the activities that we enjoyed, like hiking or canoeing, and would leave camp in the morning on our daily adventure and then when we came back to camp tired, dirty and happy, we had the luxury of cooking a great meal, taking a hot shower (love our shower tent and on-demand hot water system!!!) and getting into a queen size bed comfy and dry no matter what the weather!

Airstream stopped producing its failed Basecamp model several years back and they had 2 tradename registrations with the USPTO, one for Base Camp and one for Basecamp. They let the first one expire about 6 months ago (that's when I started pursuing using it) and it looked like they were going to let the other expire but then Airstream's parent company (Thor Tech) bought another travel trailer manufacturer and that company had a Basecamp model in their lineup, so I guess someone at Thor said, "well, hey, we have a Basecamp tradename. Let's just renew it and then our subsidiary can go ahead and use it."

Like I said, bummer at first for me, but I'm much happier with High Camp Trailers as it turns out. The best laid plans of mice and men....
