Cup-drink holders

Postby noseoil » Fri Oct 24, 2014 10:38 am

I'm trying to think ahead on the build still. Can people post images of their drink holders into this thread for me? I need to get as many ideas as possible while I'm working on the walls, before I button them up. Attachment points, different types & styles, where you found them, etc. It would be really helpful now since I'm still doing the wall panels and have access to every point in the build. Thanks, tim

I bought two of the folding drink holders from vintage technologies for $5 each. They are great and just screw in to my 1/4 inch plywood walls. I highly recommend them.

I bought the black folding plastic ones and just used the double face foam tape that came with them. They fold up out of the way and I didn't have to put a screw into my interior walls

They look something like this http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Folding-Drink-Holder/product/8966/

You just got to look around for the best price. I have seen them from $5 to $16 each

Sometimes we have a tendency to try and over think our builds (I am one of those at the top of the guilty list) and add things that we end up not using??
In the 104 nights we have slept in "Miss Piggy" to date.... there was only one night (in frigid California) have we had drinks "inside" our TD.
While designing our interior, "Cup" holders (in our case "wine glass" holders) were one of my first considerations? But never incorporated into the build.
For that I am Thankful! :worship: As in our case it would have been another thing that we would never have used.
While camping, we find ourselves spending the majority of our time outdoors (as it should be while camping in the Great Outdoors) either enjoying the peacefulness of the night or day by ourselves or in the company of the new friends we have made since joining this wonderful family of Teardrop Campers! :applause:
So......to anyone building, I would suggest "spend your time on something else that might be of more use to you while camping", and enjoy your cup of coffee or glass of wine in the comfort of your lawn chair "outside" of your while enjoying the deer that may be walking past your TD or the squirrel that has joined you on your picnic table.
Just our observation to date!

I have to disagree with Vadette, and think the cup holder can be very important. I use mine every single night I camp. I have plastic folding ones that allow us to adjust the holder for different size cups. I glued a small piece of wood on the inside if the wall the same size as the holder, then after attaching the wall panel I screwed the cup holder to the small pieces of plywood. After five years and hundreds of drinks, they are holding up great.

Clarification......I meant not going crazy with things that really do not make a difference in the long run. Cups holders per se, are an individual preference. To some, I suspect they can be very useful.

Not sure whether I'll use them or not but the quality flip down style made for boats will be what I'd use

I keep a bottle of water in it, just in case I am in bed and then decide I need to take some advil, or I need a drink for a dry mouth in the middle of the night. I also use it to brush my teeth in the morning. The cup holder is a handy place to keep the bottle of water out of the way and just in case the lid isn't tight it will not tip over and spill. I use to set them on the headboard shelf, but sometime they got knocked over. I don't even have to worry to remove the bottle before taking off again on the road the cup holder holds the bottle securely until I get home.

I added mine after several camping trips just for the purpose described. I used double face foam tape so I didn't have to worry if I had wood behind were I wanted to mount it with a screw.

I thought about including them, but between the curtains and the space for the bunk, I didn't have a clean space of wall to put them on and we just put our water bottles on the headboard shelf.

I originally thought of cup holders but soon decided not to.
Don't like the idea of liquids in the teardrop.
We simply put a microfiber towel on the fender and place any drink there.
A couple weeks ago someone ;) left a water bottle in the teardrop while traveling and my pillow got soaked .
The cap was cross threaded and leaked drip by drip.
Fortunately it was a hot California fall day and we just left the windows open while traveling and the bedding was dry for the night.
Let the pillow dry in the tow vehicle.

I installed cup-holders in my cabin, then I found out that I really don't like getting up-and-out of the trailer several times a night, to answer the call of nature. So, I have drinks in my cup-holders, untouched during the night. Getting older isn't always fun. And I'm starting to understand the drawing power of standies, with all the conveniences....
