I imagine that propane truck will keep you humping until late spring. At least you are employed. My trailer has hit the skids but I have my eye on a Casita or Scamp that has been setting in the weeds for a number of years. Should be able to talk to the person whos land it is on in a month or so. Have no idea if he owns it or what.

Also working on getting my new to me tow vehicle running good going to swap in a better motor this winter. ( brrrrrrrrr). Unheated shop.

How do they tie that canvas to the frame of a campmaster?

Slow, I would like to see a sketch or two of the "large" teardrop. I like the idea of doing a cross-wise bed & having more room in general, but I'm not sure I'm following the layout exactly. Can you do a quick sketch on the layout you're thinking about? In general it sounds like a good idea & there's plenty of stuff you have to use for the build, just not sure how you're going to get the 10# of *hi* in the 5# bag yet. With a stove, furnace, water system etc, that's a lot of different systems in a teardrop! tim

Looks good Slow. Now just keep going. The hard part is over. All you need to do is apply yourself and before you know it you'll be camping in the new trailer.

I am curious why not just make a stand up version since you have the wide trailer and are thinking about having your bed cross wise instead of running the length of the trailer. From what I've seen you have the tv muscle to pull a larger heavier camper. Looks to me like something over those wheel wells could include space for all your appliances. I would think with the larger trailer, you'd have more options than you currently have with your first TD. Anyhow I am excited to see what you come up with. I was hoping to watch you build a campmaster, but I am sure considering the quality of your first build, you're going to come up with a really nice unit.

First thing you need to do is de-tub that thing!
Next get wheels with correct backspace to put them as close to the outside as you possibly can.
Finally.....I would lose that axle and spring set up and buy a Dexter Rubber ride if you really want to tow this new trailer across county.
You could even do the de-tub without welding if you had to????

Sorry Mike, I live in the car world everyday and take too much for granted!
Drag Racers and Street Rodders that wish to run as much surface rubber on the ground as they can "Tub" their cars (widen the wheel wells to the inside). This allows them to run wide tire for traction.
But, trailers work way better the thinner the tire you use.
Your wheel tubs look like you could run 305's in them?? When what you really want to run for tires, are 155's to 185's (I run 165's on Miss Piggy)which are more suited for trailers.
Thus, if you "De-Tub" (make narrower" your wheel wells, from the inside, enough to accommodate the width of your new tires. The you will gain space inside your teardrop.
And fro your pictures this will be at least 6" (3" per side) or more! That is a lot in the TD world!
And by the looks of your wheel tubs they are beat to crap and should be replaced anyways. :?
They look galvinized.....so you won't be welding them!
But a cheap and easy fix is to narrow them to 3/4" larger than you want them (make sure you have the correct wheel clearance to allow for the sway you will get with that long spring set up) then cut out a piece of 3/4" plywood the same radius of the tub, and screw or nail it in place through the top of the tin. Seam seal everything, Rockguard the insides of your tubs and paint!!
Easy Peasy!! ;)
Enjoy the extra room for whatever you wish to us it for?

Oh I forgot! :?
Used wheels are "Free to Cheap" so get some that have the right back space and are the correct width for the tires you are going to buy.
Don't buy tires to fit the rims you have! Unless of course they are correct????
Good Luck with your new build!

I didn't move the axle on my build and had to compensate for too much weight in the back by building a storage box to mount on front. In my TD the majority of the weight was with the hatch and the kitchen area. If I hadn't built a counter weight for the front of the trailer, when I unhooked the tongue would pop up in the air which of course would mean it could very likely come unhitched while I was heading down the highway. I recognize that my build is rather different than most set ups since I take the Tear off the trailer and use it as a utility trailer several times a year and so moving the axle back for me just wouldn't work. But I also had an rather long tongue on my trailer so that I could transport a bunch of canoes that I could mount my counter weight storage box on. Regardless, I am looking forward to watching your build!

Actually, after taking a second look at your picture, it does look like the axle is mounted is mounted rear of center. Excuse my rambling. Looks like you're ahead of the game!

[quote="slowcowboy"]
i amit a teardrop and a 4 wide was a huge down grade from a motor home! but it was well worth it espeically on insurance and regestration and on gas milage and I dont miss the propane fridge in the old motor home one bit! I will alwasy use a cooler and ice after my old motor home!

Hi Slow, We went from a 36ft pusher diesel to a 5X10 (X 4) teardrop and have to say that there are several things about the motorhome that we miss, but all in all we would not trade back. We actually met and talked to more people in one (between 3 and 4 week) trip in the tear than we did in years of motor-homing. I am glad we traded the comforts of the motorhome for the camaraderie of teardrop travel.
Thanks again to the many people I stole ideas and took advice from on this forum.

Slow, I've gone from a 32 ft. fifth wheel with 3 slides to a 55 benroy. I'm much happier now. I noticed you went to work for a gas company? The oil and gas boom suck you in? I've been doing pipeline work 40 years. It's additive, beware.
