2012 Ford Escape w 2.5 liter 4 cylinder Tow capable?

Hello everyone, thinking about getting a low mileage 2012 Ford escape wit a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine , 6 speed auto transmission. Does any one on the forum have an Escape and tow a teardrop? Thanks Richard ...Txbum

Factory specs say 1500 lb towing capacity w/ 225 lb max tongue weight. You should be OK so long as you don't overload the car with gear while towing the trailer.

Find something with a 6 cylinder or more liters. I towed with a 2.5 and it did horrible on the freeway . I was constantly trying to find other routes without hills or traffic. Cause I was in the way basically. Towing a fairly light 4x8 I thought i'd be OK but NO I always was downshifting , cursing , ect.
Get something with a 4.0 and you'll be happier. Trust me.

I towed my Silver Shadow weighing about 1,500 lbs loaded with a 2012 Escape V6. I consistently got 18 mpg towing, although it dropped to 16 mph or so in headwinds and towing in mountains. It got 20+ in town, and 28+ on the road not towing. Get a 6 cyl, you probably won't get that gas mileage towing with a 4 cyl. I just traded for a 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 V6 and I will miss the Escape's gas mileage.

My 6cyl gets better gas milage than my 4 banger ever did. Probably cause is was so slow that my foot was mashed down on that gas pedal trying to get to 65mph.

reminds me of the guy I rode to tech school with sometimes, he had the original dodge dakota, with the four cyl. to give it some guts he put a holley four barrel carb on it...
driving down the highway at 70 you could watch the gas guage move...
