I had seen that movie a number of times before I noticed that they had to add an extra set of wheels under the tongue of the trailer to allow the Mercury to tow it. I guess it was an early version of a weight distributing hitch system. Does anybody know how common that was?

That's modern day. Here's what they used back in the day and on the Long, Long Trailer. They used them because of tongue weight.

Gage, I saw one of those (similar) at a swap meet a couple years ago, it needed the usual sand blast, paint, tires etc. Don't remember what the guy wanted for it though. Thanks for the picture's very educational about the old stuff....for me anyway.

Hey Gage. Thanks for those pictures. Way way back in the 50's and 60's we had an old camping trailer for farm labor housing and it had a set up something like that. As best as my fuzzy memory goes though it did seem to me to have been built in and not an add on. I believe the trailer was probably from the late 30's and had some of the best wood working in it that I have ever seen. No idea of the name on it. I think the outside was Masonite or something like that, go not remember it being metal.
