TV in your Teardrop

Postby Vedette » Thu Dec 18, 2014 3:06 am

I built in a laptop mount into my Teardrop Miss Piggy so we could watch movies on nights not suitable for being outside.
To date we have yet to have use it
But!.....I am considering a TV in Kermit (my new build) just in case.
Now to come up with the right unit.
The idea is to have something that can run off of 12v or both (not just AC 110), large enough to see, accept a thumb drive, but is not too large or deep.
TV, Lap Top, Monitor c/w remote and thumb drive gizmo??????
What should I get???

Oh, and did I mention Cost is a serious consideration!

I'm doing the same thing Brian but as I'm aware there isn't a tv that does mains and 12v but we don't do 110 only 240 so may be something over there.
I was going to run my mac book through the hdmi port same as I do in the 40 inch kitchen tv.
The new hiesene tvs are realy good value for money I haven't seen if they make 12v but I suspect they do.
All the bells and whistles of the big brands but a 3 year warranty instead of one

I used the 19" Element model elefw195 TV from Walmart. It has a wall-wart that is 12 volt. just make a cord and you are in business.

Brian, I'm going to install one of these in my tear. It's small enough, light, runs on 12v & fits the bill for my needs. Should be big enough to see in the limited space I have for watching.

Will be using one of the Sony 12v BD-DVD players & an Insigna sound bar for sound. Amazon has an articulating mount (aluminum) for the flat screen to fasten to the wall & move around. The only glitch is with the sound bar. I couldn't find a 12v model, so the one I got (on sale @ $59) was an 18 v unit. I may have to run an inverter to use the sound system. Otherwise, the TV & BD player are both 12 volt units. They are made for home use, but both have 12v step-down transformers to power them so they should work well with a battery & not use much current.

We use our Ipads with movies down loaded in them. The size of the picture is adequate for the size of the teardrop. I attach a couple of small iHome speakers. They can be run off of, or charged, by a simple 12 volt USB plug that you can buy anywhere. Since you mentioned you want to use a thumb drive, that eliminates Apple devices. What about one of those new Microsoft devices? The Surface?

Brian ,
I bought a 19" Insignia TV from Best Buy a while back & it has a regular 120 volt AC cord but there is a transformer in the cord that drops the voltage down to 12volts DC . I think it draws 23 watts . At any rate I don't see any reason why it couldn't be powered up with 120VAC or 12 VDC ............ It's on sale right now for $89.00.

Try RoadTrucker 12 volt accessories. I got a Skyworth 15" TV with DVD. It runs on both Ac and DC.

Thank you to all of you that have responded with your suggestions and testimonials. :applause:
I will take them all in to consideration if I go the route of a TV in our teardrop.
A Little Birdie contacted me with a little wake up, that has put a TV on hold for now??
Nice that we can count on our friends here on the forum for their honest concern.
