Leslie Gulch Freezeout 2015

Postby robfisher » Tue Jan 27, 2015 1:01 am

I've posted this in the Northwest Section but since the time is so short I thought I would post it here as well.

OK The Leslie Gulch Freezeout is official. It runs from Jan 29,2015 to whenever we get too cold, probably Sunday morning. It's a no host event. We'll also be taking a side trip through Succor Creek Canyon. You can expect to see mountain sheep in the gulch and on another side trip wild horses. Things to do include sight seeing, hiking, and sitting around the fire ring telling lies. We already have 4 teardrops signed up so come join us. Expect night time temps to be around 20-25 and daytime temps around 40. Dress warm. We have Randy (Wolffarmer) to thank for creating this awsome winter experience. Any questions just ask.

you might want to pre-run the route first. I was on Poison Creek rd last weekend and it was a gooey mudhole. If not for 4wheel drive and mud tires I'd still be there.

Loren, Thanks for the advice. Poison Creek, one of my favorite areas, seems to be a mud hole at the hint of rain or any kind of spring thaw. I am a little worried about the hill down into Leslie although it is better graveled. I'll take your advice though and run out there tomorrow. A backup plan is to camp in Succor creek. That road from the North is pretty much always good if there is no snow on it. Will we get to meet you out there. Even if you don't want to camp it would be great meeting you.

Visited Leslie Gulch today and the road is in great shape. The family sedan will be just fine. Temperature was 50 degrees, grass is turning green. Going to be a nice weekend. Come by for a visit. You'll have a great time and discover a magical place, the hoodoos of Leslie Gulch.

Cool Rob. I should be leaving here at 7:50am tomorrow. Can't leave earlier as after I hooked up the trailer found I have no tail lights on the TV. Have signals, brake and head lights. Oh well. not a big thing. As long as I do not loose much more. Lost the dash light last Sep after Burning Man. I kind of think I know where the problem is. ( nut behind the wheel ). I got wood, lanterns and stoves loaded up. Stop at a store for some fresh fruit and veggies.

I got back about 1/2 hour ago. Great place. Anyone up for a gathering April 24-26? Or the week end before?

I'll try to get some pictures up later.

Randy:
Either weekend works for me. There is a Pahrump NV gathering the 16-19th of April I was considering but Leslie Gulch is a lot closer for me. If you made it the 24th, I could make both! It was really nice to visit with you and see the clever things in your TD.

Here is the write up of the Hoodo gathering

Hoodo Trip

Shall we plan on another gathering there April 24th-26th?

Weather is very variable still but we can figure out something if need be.
