BedJet Heater/Cooler-Teardrop HVAC? NO:Just Heat/Circulation

Postby shootr » Wed Feb 04, 2015 11:05 pm

This was just on Shark Tank, it's a little unit to heat or cool your bed:

http://bedjet.com/products/single-zone-climate-control-system-any-size-bed

My gears started turning - is this a solution to heating/cooling my lil' 4' x 8' teardrop? I wrote them and this is the power draw:

"Cooling is 9 to 40 watts, heating is 300 to ~1450 watts maximum depending on mode (regular heat vs. turbo heat) and power setting."

I like that one unit would heat the bed or cool the trailer, but I only want to use my 12V deep cycle as a power source. I'm ignorant on taking their values and equating it to my battery capacity.

Does this sound feasible at all, or is a generator required? He says they have a smartphone app to control it, so I'm checking to see if it can be set to kick on like once an hour for a short burst, then turn off.

This is a cool little unit I just reviewed their site and I would think this might be The ticket need to contact them and explain what we have and intended use to see what they think and maybe they can run some tests .also need to see I what the flow or Cfm of air is thanks for sharing that with us

WATTS=AMPS x VOLTS

So, AMPS= WATTS/VOLTS

So in the case of your cooling unit,

AMPS = 45 WATTS/12V = 3.75 AMPS DC

Assuming, of course, the unit works on DC. If it's AC (110V), then you'll need to put an inverter in there, and that will add around 20% to the load due to conversion losses.

That's a pretty good draw, so you'll probably need a big battery or two to make it thru the night assuming you leave it running. If it can cycle, even better, as it will not consume as many amp-hours.

Questions I'd have is how many BTU does this put out, and where does the condensate, if any, go?

Still conversing with them. It's AC only so it would run through my inverter.

For heat it would pull huge amps, but this things claim to fame is a brief 3 minute shot to warm up the bed-it can't run for much longer without overheating and shutting down.

The app doesn't have the ability to schedule an on/off routine, looks like just 3 separate turn on times at most, and no thermostat ability for control either.

For me, even in Arizona, I don't want to camp with an a/c unit, just open windows, fans, and a canopy over the whole camper to shade from the sun during the day.

Heat would be nice, but again, so far so good without any.

If this could help cool down the camper a bit before bed, or in winter warm it up a little in the morning - and as compact as it is - we'll, it might just be worth it to me.

At max heat, about the same as a hair dryer on high, or a heat gun on low.

They designed it to blow warm air under the blanket and in 3 minutes have it feel like it just came out of a dryer.

It's the cooling part at 45 watts that I'm wondering about.

Since it is only designed to run in very short spurts, I doubt it has provisions for any condensation removal.

Aaaaaaand boooo. No cooling circuit, what they say is a "cooling shot of air" is merely the fan blowing room temperature air under your blanket that was supposedly heated up by your body.

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

We sure like our $30 12V electric blanket to pre heat the bed. It draws about 4 amps and has a 30/45 minute timer on it.

If you remove the built in timmer and add a digital one, ypu could enjoy it for 30/45 minutes before you fall off to sleep and then have it turn on 30 minutes before your planned time to get up.
