Which way is your door?

Postby Bigblock352 » Wed Mar 04, 2015 11:24 am

So I have a premade door with a built in screen. like this one.

I've seen this installed screen on top and screen on bottom. Is there a "right" way. I like my door opening the way it does with the screen on bottom, but that just seemed backwards.
So how do you all do it? Benefit to either over the other? Like better airflow on the bottom or???

THANKS!

So far as airflow, there's no right or wrong.
However, check the frame for weep holes for draining water to the outside.
They need to go on the bottom, obviously. :D

Ah good idea. That might make up my mind for me.

Screen on the bottom. I tried mine with the screen on top because I liked the airflow better. I knew it was not the "correct" way to install it but tried it anyway. First big rain told me I made a huge mistake. It will leak horribly. I switched mine and now it is bone dry. If you are not sure, hit it with the hose and see if it leaks.

From my perspective, most noxious gasses tend to be heavier than air and will sink to the lowest point.(I'm talking the likes of carbon monoxide guys!)
That's where we sleep too, although the mattress is a little higher than the bottom of the door.
Having the mesh & vented at the bottom of the door allows an escape for the gasses quite easily without accumulating. That's my Theory according to Dez
and I'm sticking to it! Besides, a cool draft onto ones face at that level is a joy to behold on a warm night

Screen on the bottom means if you open them on a warm night, you will feel the breeze laying on the bed.
