my 4 x 8 was just over 18 inches deep in the cooler area when I got it under my counter, I pulled out the divider wall, 3/8 thick panel, and remounted it forward 1 1/2 inch giving me almost 20inches of space for my 15inch deep x 23inch wide (15inch tall) 48 gt Igloo cooler (common Igloo/Wal-Mart $20 3 day cooler) . Made a nice slider drawer for it and still had room for a 6 gallon water jug on 1 side with a 'tall'(15 inch) Igloo lunch box cooler - 10 inch wide x 13 inch deep on the other side (use for bread-fruits-wine, whatever). My mattress is a cut down in width full size to 46 inches wide x 73 long W/M memory foam 4 inch pad - I am 5 ft 9 in. The other thing I did when I moved the divider panel was to make it "removable" for the future - I mounted a vertical 2x2 on the each side for a mounting edge along with 2x2 horizontal floor edge between these sides thus giving a good bulk head floor edge to mount my cooler slider drawer to on it's back side. My thought for making the divider panel removable was so if I ever put in a real mattress, it could be slide straight in from the back instead of trying to have to put it in threw the side door. There is room for a lot back there - it just takes some "trial and err - fitting this and that" to come up with what you can live with. This is one of those the fun-hobby type things of owning a teardrop and making it yours!!!!
