Teardrop On Sunset Magazine Cover, May 2015

Postby halfdome, Danny » Thu Apr 16, 2015 10:11 pm

It looks like Sunset has another teardrop on their cover.
The last one was in 2012.
It appears that unusual roof is fabric & might be removable.

It's a "Hütte Hut"
http://www.sunset.com/travel/california/trailer-rentals/hutte-hut

When Vacations in a Can was featured in 2012 was right when I'd started my search. They were the first place I called to have a trailer built (I love their trailers) but the wait time was a year and I wasn't that patient.

Just noticed the price... "From $63,900" :o

It's a teardrop profile but it doesn't look like there's a rear hatch so not a classic teardrop. An interior picture in the slide show on the website. http://huttehut.com/

:?  good grief. I think that must have been the April 1st edition. Even if they took one of the zeros off it would be way over priced. It does look quite cute though.

I just got my copy of the mag. I got on Hutte Hut's website. You'd think for $63,000 you'd get weatherseal around the doors, screened windows or maybe a fan –not to mention a galley. (I see no way to ventilate the trailer other than open the doors. Maybe they've got some system that isn't apparent.) Their trailer is unique and quite artsy, but I'm a fan of function over form. If anyone's looking for a more functional 5x10 traditional teardrop, mine's up for sale at $59,000.

I just got my Sunset magazine and was going to start a thread on the Hutte Hut but see I didn't pull the trigger quite fast enough. As mentioned in previous post the price is absolutely crazy, hopefully a misprint. The trailer itself does present some new ideas worthy of consideration if one is just starting a build. If they sell 33 of these, three test models and a production run of 30 per their website, there may be hope for some of my cockamamy ideas. If there are 33 folks out there in the USofA willing to pay $63,000.00 for a teardrop there is still hope for some of my wild ideas. Lee

The Price has to be a joke or a misprint? :?
And the build looks like something that a none Teardrop camper would come up with.
these guys are definitely not in the loop!

For the incredibly low price of only $58,990, I will sell not only my camper, but also my truck and will actually finish building it and will call the buyer up once a month to listen to them complain for 2 whole hours about anything they want to complain about. Twice a year I will send hate mail to myself and a copy to the buyer to assure that person that I have been scolded about something. AND, this week only, I will personally make reservations for the buyer at several different campgrounds around the U.S. and/or Canada. Finally, I will provide a free subscription to Sunset Magazine for 1 whole year.

Now that's a deal!

I wrote the company on their website about whether that price was a misprint. It's been several weeks and I've heard nothing...so maybe $63K was correct.

Yes well if you look at the website, they are wanting almost $20k as a deposit. Even if they only got the deposit, with the minimal amount of materials, and the labour content surly can't amount to much, after all it is pretty basic, they will still be making a whopping profit on it

LOL  Good one!

In their defense, the only way I can see the valuation being set so high is this: If it takes them a year to make one and that is their income for the entire year and they can actually find people willing to pay that price... More power to them for creating a viable business. If on the other hand it only takes a few weeks to build and they did no research on pricing and competition then they'll figure out quickly enough that their price may need to be adjusted. It is a beautiful, though not terribly functional, camper. I hope it works out for them one way or the other.

I just can't get over the lack of ventilation and rubber seals on the doors. Have the builders ever spent a few nights camping in that thing? Have they never travelled a dirt road?

Oh, well, we're all different and that's the best thing about being a member of this human club.
