where to buy solar

Postby PKCSPT » Thu Sep 24, 2015 11:32 pm

Please be patient, I hate shopping. Especially online Where I can't see and touch what I am buying.
What kind of stores sell all I would need for solar. Are we talking Menards, Walmart, Fleet Farm? Cabellas? Is there a specialty type store?

I have a 100 watt panel and solar charge contro)er from windy nation. Kit has been going strong for 4 years. I did upgrade my solar controler to one that turns on a light at night when panel output drops to below 5 volts. Very happy with product. Think the whole thing was just under 250$

Solar, along with everything else, depends on your intended use. Start with what you intend to run on battery power. Size your panel to that need. I have a 30w briefcase panel I bought from Amazon. It will fulfill my needs nicely. You can get the same or similar panel(s) at all of the above.

What type of store? Not an online shopper. Not much of any kind of shopper.

Is there anyone you know that can help you (sit with you at the computer) and shop online? The selection will be only as limited as you budget on Amazon and many more deals to be had online. I know that is not your preference, but the reality is that is where the competition and thus lower prices and better selection are.

Grape solar and renogy are 2 names that seem to be popular and have good reviews right now.

I really enjoyed working with these guys:

The sales guy took the time to answer my questions and directed me to what I installed in my trailer.

I have been bouncing around the many popular (meaning liked by TnTTT posters) dealers and so far have found that most have similar pricing. $.96 to $1.40 a watt seems to be the range of pricing for units that interested me. This is depending on the panel watt size. I do not recall why I did not jump on the $.96 units (could have been physical dimensions). I will have to go back and check again. Right now I am using $1.20 a watt as my benchmark to compare untis. There are many manufacturers listed in the websites. If any one comes across a great online sale, maybe they can post it here.

I've had two 50 watt Renogy units (I believe Aleko is the same panels under another name) on three different camping systems. They work great. Got them from Amazon, I think I paid about $80 for each panel. They've both gone through some pretty rough treatment and work flawlessly.
