Floating Teardrop

Postby Shadow Catcher » Mon Nov 23, 2015 12:38 pm

I have for some time had an idea that it might be fun to have some way to be able to float a teardrop and played with ideas, I will never do it but it is a fun exercise.
Found an inflatable ferry that would fill the bill.

I would think it should not be that hard. With a light TD you would be talking 800#. Some 2' wide foam and canvas toons with bars under the frame. and a platform in the back. The getting in and out of the water would be the hard part. (wheels in the toon's?)

The tricky part is to work out how to carry all the pontoons, etc on the teardrop on the way to and from the water.

angib if you look at the manufacturers web site the deflated ferry fits in the back of a small station wagon. I had actually thought of finding a couple of ship launch bags (really tough) and coming up with a support frame. Fun to play with as an idea.

I'll try to find the vid, but there is a couple in Europe that built a towable/floatable TD. Powered by a small gas engine, the back hatch opens to allow operation. It is pretty slick, but I think it could be a bit wobbly in waves. He painted it to look like a cartoon whale.

I have long felt that a floating pontoon setup where you could drive a trailer/RV of what ever flavor as a house boat would make for an interesting rental set up.

I found an 8 x 20 pontoon deck only for $500.00 but was told I already had too many projects.

I thought about a large "campground" horseshoed around a 5 x 10 foamie tear drop.
