Just Hi and a big THANKS!

Postby kVox42 » Wed Jan 06, 2016 12:25 am

Attention: Lengthy post ahead. But it’s a general hello and a thank you to all.

I haven’t been on here for quite some time, or TNTT, and I will post this message there as well, (along with a forum for people who own my tow vehicle, which is a whole other topic but I won’t digress). I simply haven’t had time since I’ve been up to my eyeballs doing all the things necessary to get me where I am, and that is on the road! Mission FINALLY accomplished (albeit several months after my intended schedule).

I wanted to sign on to post a general thanks to everyone who takes time to shares info here. Forums like this were invaluable in gathering what I needed to: A) get a basic education on various trailer options, teardrops and otherwise, B) decide on the right option for me, C) locate a builder and D) design a trailer that would meet my needs.

I left home (Raleigh) 2 weeks ago and will be on the road for at least 6 months, likely more.

Among my primary intentions is to have little in the way of a set itinerary. I know places I want to visit, people I want to spend time with, things I want to do, and have a general idea of how to make that work while still being open to whatever might show up. I think it’s called "living in the moment”  :-)  Where I go will be mostly dictated by how I’m feeling physically, the weather, and my intuition. Right now I’m at Crooked River State Park on the southern coast of Georgia> Gradually I’ll be making my way across the country (and then some).

So thanks again for the assist. Whether we communicated directly or you just posted some useful info, it was all a HUGE help. I’ll be clocking some serious road time; maybe I can return the favor.

I’ll try to include a picture or two of my rig and also want to thank Mike Geister, who built my trailer. His company name is Geistwerks and he builds a couple basic models (and is developing a 3rd). I can’t speak highly enough of his craftsmanship. My eventual choice turned out to be perfect for me. Mike is located in Minnesota (up there in the upper Midwest where so many of you TD builders hide out. What’s up with that? :)
Here’s a link to his website: http://geistwerks.us/main/

I’ll also offer an open invitation to contact me directly if I can help with any info I can pass along, whether it be trailers, research, tow vehicles, hitches, travel tips, whatever.

Happy travels!

Sounds like you will be staying in the south if you are going to be home in 6 months.
But, if you ever want to explore the PNW or come to Canada (B.C.) we would love to meet you.
We have free camping here at the Farm.
Enjoy your Teardrop Adventure!

Kevin:

Love the setup and I know you're happy with the power of the VW. If that's a TDI don't forget to register with VW to get your $1000.00 in gift cards for having their diesel engine. $500 is good only at VW dealerships and $500 is good anywhere. It took about 4 weeks to get the cards and then you have to get them activated at a VW dealer. Good luck on your journey.....

Thanks. Yes, I just registered about a week ago. I (like many TDI owners) are hoping for a reasonable fix but we'll see. VW certainly got themselves a (well deserved) black bye so we'll see how they handle things going forward. I still love the car but the jury is still out as to how they're going to get it into compliance. I have my fingers crossed. But it was a bummer to find out what VW had done after one of the primary reasons for buying my car (and pay a bit of a premium in the process) was to be mindful of my environmental footprint.

Cheers,
Kevin

I know you left to get out of this never ending rain we've been having. Here's wishing you some "dry" camping.
