Some kind of lift

Postby ae6black » Wed Feb 10, 2016 3:46 pm

I have an odd situation. When I built my TD I had a trailer that I use for a bunch of other things so I remove my TD about once a year or so. Anyhow, since I rarely camp during the warmer months I don't need a refrigerator. Because of my set up, because I didn't move my axle since I use the trailer for other things, I simply built a large box that I mounted in front of the TD on the trailer that I use to carry everything from firewood, building supplies, and even canoes. With such a long tongue on this thing space really isn't an issue, there fore I have rather large counterweight box mounted in front of my TD. Anyhow since a TD is never done, I was wondering about putting a small AC Refrigerator that I have in that box on a lift. The easy way would be to simply cut a hole in the box, but then I'd have to deal with a seal which I've already dealt with with the top mounted lid. Does anybody know of a lift contraption similar to a sewing machine or a mixer lift that might work or some other application that might suit my purposes? Since I have a regular Travel trailer for when the family goes camping with me this has never been a serious issue. But it's winter and like every one else I am killing time by thinking about what I could do as an improvement to my TD.

In homes retrofitted for folks in wheelchairs, they are presented with a similar problem in reverse. How do you reach upper cabinets in a kitchen? One method of solving the problem was to make the upper cabinets move down to the counter top. They use the motor and drive mechanism from trash compactors to raise and lower moveable cabinets. You could do something similar with linear actuators. KC is using some for the hatch in his foamy hybrid build ( the Poet Creek Express). He might be able to give you some useful information.

I'm not certain how high you have to get the 'frig. Would an auto jack or a motorcycle/ATV jack get it high enough? ...Just a thought.

Yes, it is all about how much lift you need?
If you have something heavy to lift.....but not far, an airbag would work.

I never thought of a jack, that certainly has possibilities. The more I think of my particular situation, the more I am leaning towards actually cutting a door in the box as being the most cost effective way of doing what I want to do. I know there's some good Door plans on this site and that's probably what I need to start considering. Or rework my galley and insert the frige in that space where most people have them located. Since I typically don't use this Trailer during warm weather, I may end up just not doing anything. Thanks for all your good replies. Food for thought during the winter cabin fever season.
