Anyone use a fold up bed in their 4ft high coach?

Postby JaggedEdges » Sun Apr 24, 2016 6:43 pm

Hey folks,

Anyone using one of these kind of things?

http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Mattress- ... 00SNOFUPK/

Just wondering if there was a point in ordering one for a mattress. My first is probably going to be 4ft high internally, and these will fold to 8inch high seat for a slouchy couch. Does that tend to leave you enough room to scootch onto one, or is it just a fancy way to smack your head around?

Thanks for any insights.

I have not used one of those but since I've seen them I am curious how they would sleep. I made a beach/camp chair for my 4' high camper. Reason is, I wanted to have an inside sitting comfort for rainy weather. I originally tried a regular bag chair and fit inside the trailer okay while sitting but a lower beach chair is perfect. Obviously, when my wife and I use the camper we have a full mattress and the chair does not fit, thus the interest in the sofa bed for us both.

Hey Tom, looks like we've got no TD experience so far, reading the Amazon reviews they were saying the foam is good and firm "Adult" quality and you didn't bottom out on it.

I plan to make something similar in my build. We'll use a 4" mattress laminated from 2" of dense foam and 2" of memory foam. We'll split the mattress into three pieces across its width and then sew covers for each piece from Sunbrella upholstery fabric. These will be sewn to each other in such a way that we sit on a 4" layer with the other two pieces folded over to form a backrest. The underfloor storage area will provide a means to drop our feet another six inches so our legs won't be straight out in front of us. We'll use the underfloor storage covers to elevate the front of the bottom cushion 4" similar to the way Vistabule does theirs.
