Best Can Opener?

Postby Cosmo » Thu May 26, 2016 6:31 pm

What are you using to open cans?
I have not found a can opener I like yet. Most are too big and heavy to use in my teardrop.
I am looking for recommendations

Thanks
Coamo

Been using one of these for years at home and in the teardrop. Small, light, easy to clean.

I've used a Pampered Chef smooth edge can opener for many years. It's been my favorite can opener. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141666025627

I don't know the brand, but the long crank handle is great.Image

I had one like that for many decades. Learned to be careful and try to not give the handle a quick twist. The bottle opener gouged under a finger nail several times. Over the years it got harder to open cans until about 6 months ago I bought a new different can opener. Found out I was not losing strength in my hand. Opener was either getting dull or was never sharp. Not sure what I have now.

For the camper I have a simple opener that does not use a cutting wheel but just a simple hunk of metal to open the can. Like Slow I tend to not use to many cans so something simple and does not take up space is okay. If I forget the opener I always have my Swiss army knifes. I travel with 2. One my regular pocket knife, all metal, and another for the kitchen that has tooth pick and tweezer.

All metal pocket knife so I can boil it when it gets bad from work.

The Swing-A-Way.... Like in first two responses... Not a light weigh, but almost indestructible and have not met a can it would not open with ease.... Most other can openers compared to this one are a joke...

Great suggestions
I don't eat canned food if fresh is available but it seems like a practical item to have on board when traveling.

Good to see they have not put a CPU, USB port and display screen on the can opener yet!

Thanks
Cosmo

I don't use many cans while camping. Tuna for tuna salad, or soup.
I use a P51 military can opener, use them at home too.
The P51 is larger than the P38. Works great, takes up very little space.

I went to the Army surplus store and bought a bunch of p98 can openers. And put them in the dawes a s my tackle box and even my vehicle. Once you learn how to use it it's easy to use and they don't take up any space.
