Your choice of Mattress

Very soon it will be time to find a mattress for the Astroliner. I'm wondering what ya'll are using for a mattress. I'm guessing some prefer a regular spring mattress, some prefer foam or memory foam. Anyway, let me know what you're using, what you like, what you don't like and such. Also, if you're using something that you really love, where did you get it and why you think it's so good.

if you have a 5 ft wide trailer your options are many being they are a queen size, the hassle for you is getting it thought the side door.(if using foam/memory foam either rolling it or having it cut into sections so as to re-fit them back together inside is normally how they do it - OR having a removable foot panel in the kitchen area would allow for a real spring mattress to be slide in from the back end.) But being mine is a 4 ft - I started out with used a 4 inch memory foam topper from W-M than added another 1 I/2 memory foam to it later but being I weight 240 it just was not enough. Put up with it for a few years than started over again going to a mattress factory and had them cut a 5 inch thick foam mattress for it and now it was just the opposite - it was just too hard and dense so I added the 1 1/2 memory foam piece I still had too it and it is now just fine. The problem with the 4 ft is, you have to have a mattress cut to fit being this is not a standard size. Full size mattresses are 54 inches wide and the inside of my trailer is 46 inches which means the having to cut something to make it fit.

I used a 4" queen size memory foam topper in my 5X10 weekender. Bought it online (Overstock.com I think). I bought the 4" because of the limited head room inside the 4' high walls. Kept it rolled up with bungee cords to move in and out through the doors. When you are crawling around on all fours you bottom out but when you spread your body weight laying down it is fully supporting. The topper was actually 1.5" of memory foam and 2.5" of regular firm foam. I found that I didn't like the memory foam side as it got hard in cold weather and you couldn't move around after you form a depression with your body. I ended up flipping the topper and sleeping on the regular foam and it was very comfortable. I bought the same topper for my new project even though it is a standy with plenty of head room.

I found this on Overstock.com. It looks like it could be perfect for use in a teardrop. Twin and Full are 75" long, the XL versions are 80" long. Queen is also 80" long

I have been doing some research on this as well.

I have been looking at either the Lucid 4" or Millard 6" trifold mattresses. My thought is since they fold up into a sofa seat that gives some flexibility. If weather is bad and you want to hang out in the teardrop. https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Foldi ... d+mattress

I have read though that some of the memory foam beds get hard in cold weather. I don't know if covering them in a down mattress topper would help or not.

I ordered a custom size mattress from the Foam Factor web site. This web site was recommended by some of the forum members in a previous discussion. I got a 6 inch high quality foam mattress with cover and a 4 inch memory foam topper. It sleeps great!

Here's my mattress. I like it. Not too warm. Pretty squishy, but, firm when you lay down. Mattresses are kind of a personal choice, but, someone steered me to this one a while back on t&ttt and I ended up liking it...

I do like the idea of the sofa one that Steve posted. I don't know if it would be firm enough though at only 4" thick.

Good stuff. Thanks a bunch for your input! With my camper, I have a full size door and a 6'2" interior height so getting it inside isn't a problem.
