I've seen a couple of similar examples here on the forum, but I can't recall their names. (There goes that memory "issue" again.) None of these, however, had a trailer with steel walls and floor though.
I guess you could go full on redneck with the design, and use the aft portion of a pickup truck for the base!

Oh !!! Great Idea A79 !!! Actually we’ve been looking at a similar trailer right down the street abandoned in the woods for the past 20 years … the back of a Pickup with a camper top on … Too far gone now for a “restoration” … But I’ve “ thought “ of it many times ... Bet a trip to the junkyard would yield trailer parts in short order … a "Quickee camper” ... Although somewhat “ratty” on the outside , the inside could be finished quite nicely … Just an optional idea for someone with no building skills and a limited budget … Anything is possible here huh ???
Perhaps eh Twisted ‘ … Think how nice it would be to have a real Tailgate , a bumper , and built in tail lights and License plate holder … … Having done a Number of “Kustom Van” conversions many years ago , it would be an easy matter to put a luxury interior inside … Just a PU truck cab … Easy to insulate , carpet and decorate to suit…
Would be pretty easy to go crazy and make something really Cool with a little sweat equity and not too many bucks … and you could paint it to match the TV …
If I had only seen this before I cluttered my shop! I could have just started with the only other trailer I ever built. I guess this means I am already on two, but thinking of three!
Anybody ever try taking a pickup truck bed and removing the heavy rear suspension , and modify it to be more “trailer friendly” ? Theoretically you could install a “trailer axle “ of proper weight. Any idea what an empty Pickup bed weighs anyway … ? I see the Fiberglass camper tops are Cool looking but HEAVY ( mine sure is ) … The Aluminum ones seem pretty light especially without too many Windows. ( as shown above ^ ) The more I think about this the more practical it sounds …
Doesn’t somebody make an Aluminum PU truck bed … Ford ???
Pickup bed is about #400 I took my rust bucket one off of my 65 ford pickup so I could later install one that was in better shape. We went to the scrap steel dealer and he picked the load of steel we had on with the magnet. I probably should have told him we had unbolted the bed before driving in but the look on the crane operators face was priceless. That little 240 6 cylinder 3 on the tree would smoke tires real neat after the bed was removed
Just sayin’ , it seems like this is a realistic "Quick and Dirty" camper style , and there’s so many ways to pop one together … I’d think depending what you can find … ( read: “Salvage” ) Door’s a really cool idea too ,but I can cook on a tailgate , and have before … sorta like a fold-down Galley so to speak … What ever you need , you can do !!! Probably pretty cheap too if you shop around …
During the week you can haul stuff around … Slide tools in > work trailer … slide camping gear in > camper trailer …. Multitasking … JUST an Idea !!!
May ( or may not ) be pretty but still beats a Tent eh ? …
