What gadget/gizmo/tool would make your TD life better?

Postby Squigie » Tue Feb 04, 2020 12:04 am

As the title asks...
What aspect of the TD life, camping life, nomadic tiny trailer life could be improved by a simple gadget, gizmo, tool, or some other improvement?
What do you feel is common and "accepted" but is outdated and should have been improved by modern technology by this point?

I won't cast my own vote for quite some time, as I don't want to influence the responses. But I am genuinely curious about the potential answers.

I’d like a small cold fusion reactor the size of a soup can that puts out 6kw.

An android to do my day job for me, forward pay checks to my account so I can camp more often? :R

That would be awesome, otherwise my TD does an excellent job as it is.
My build, 5x8 modified benroy "Smiles to go". Started April 2nd 2015, first trip August 2nd 2015.

Howabout a vent fan that can be turned up so high you can put your teardrop into a hover, and then push it into a "backup" camp spot? :FNP

Cell phones work pretty good Slow. In your area they just didn't put any towers up. You live vey close to the largest travel destination is the U.S. and there seems to be only a couple of towers a long way away from it.

I bet your phone has a bad antenna. The wife's 1st I phone was like that. You could be insight of a tower and it wouldn't connect to it. If it did it would drop calls. Same with internet. She got lucky and gave that phone a bath. The replacement works much better.

Sounds like Sprint.

When we bought our current house, my wife and I used Sprint, because, at the time, they had far better coverage in the boonies.
But here, in town, where I can see the closest tower 2,400 feet across this little valley (I've measured it on satellite images), reception was so poor that family and friends stopped trying to communicate with us at times when we were likely to be at home. ...Because it never ended in anything but frustration.
Sprint wouldn't do anything for us, however - such as providing an in-home repeater/'booster', which was free for people in 'dead' zones' at the time - because their coverage map showed a perfect signal at this address.
"Oh, yea? Come test it..." :NC

Poking fun at Sprint's poor choice of frequencies in the spectrum aside...
Where you're at, you're probably too close to the tower, and actually out of line-of-sight.

I've run into that issue with a rental house, as well as several places I've visited or camped. The directional antennae aren't built to 'look' down. So there's actually a dead zone around them, if there's no overlap with another tower.

You need to find out who's tower that is and switch carriers. Your phone's carrier isn't capable of using it. You might ask around town to find out who's carrier works well.

:frightened:

And here's a gizmo-matic I'll probably grab this spring:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C5RQJHS/?coliid=I2ATNMDCKKB3SD&colid=3DIEP78B3UWPM&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

It's a $34 Bluetooth enabled propane tank level indicator. It magnetizes to the bottom of the tank and you can check on the fuel level with your phone.

Does anyone have one?
