so my very first organised shoot at the local range is probably cancelled.

I assume you can just go shoot anytime, anywhere? Or not?

No, not at the range. It's not a public range business, it's a club owned range. But open to visiting shooters whenever they are shooting. So most Saturday mornings.
The organisation I just joined has a range about 25 miles away that is open Sunday mornings.
So, most weekends, I'll be able to shoot Saturday or Sunday.
And my friend has a nice private little alley on his son's supercross track where I can shoot 130 yards.
So, currently have three options for a weekend target session.
On a happy note, the rain cleared, though the wind did not.
I went out to the range to watch the shoot, and was persuaded to go home and fetch my rifle.
Went back, lined up for the 200 yard hunting class "rabbit shoot". It's an outline of a bunny printed on an A4 sheet of paper. The bunny profile is about 2/3 to 3/4 of the length of the paper, so about 8 inches long.
I came 6th out of 9 shooters, just pipping the club captain, who finished in 7th place.
It sounds better than it was, as several were using 0.22 long rifle, and the club captain a) coached me through each shot, and b) was using 0.17 HMR himself.

Lovely calibre, but the 16 grain bullet was being tossed around by the 20 mph gusts, so I just manage to scrape past him with my 55 grain 0.223.
Not only the calibre advantage, but the range officer was watching the weather rolling in, and declared that it was to be "visitors first", so I got to shoot in slightly better conditions.

Still, I managed 99 and 11 rabbits from a possible of 200 and 20 rabbits. I wasn't upset, it really was blustery, and I now have a fair bit of confidence in the rifle.
Except the mag doesn't feed well. The experienced blokes at the range say the spring is too strong, so the first rounds out literally jump out of the breach.
They say the trick is to open the mag and cut off half a coil at a time until I achieve smooth operation.

Thanks for the explanation. Were you too shooting a .17?

No. My retirement present was a Winchester XPR in 0.223, with a mid range Hawke scope. It has now had a total of 65 rounds through the barrel, and the groupings are getting tighter.
I like the rifle, except the magazine feed is awful. Only the last round in the magazine feeds clean. General consensus from the guys at the rifle club is that the spring in the magazine is too strong, causing all but the last round to "pop" out of the mag and go anywhere but into the chamber.

I really do like those 0.17 HMRs though. You could literally hear 'em sizzling down the range.

They sure do seem that way when you are looking at the profile laid out on a single sheet of plywood.
Somehow, they "grow" when you stand the sidewall up on the floor. :o

They are... In the spring and fall when the night's chill comes on fast, we find ourselves going "to bed" early and playing cards. We've become enamored with a game called Hand and Foot. Anywho, we find it comfortable to sit inside and play half the night.

You'll become enamored with your cozy cabin.

Yep. Even though you have the vents open letting air run through, that tiny cab heats up nice, doesn't it?

Sitting in our (electrically) heated cabin reading this now. We seem to have lost warm weather all the way to the gulf coast. :snow

That's quite the CAD schematic. I don't think I could do it on Sketchup. Did you do that for fun or as part of a project?

Pressure tested the tear, It now takes about an hour. I had been concerned about getting enough air pressure in to the galley area to get a valid test as there are no substantial holes from the cabin back. That is no longer a question, one new leak around a tail light. The good news all the previous efforts were successful they are still sealed.

Wow, I've never seen anyone do a pressure test on a trailer. No leaks for you!
