Didn't do this today, but last evening. Was cooking in our outdoor brick pizza oven.
Just wanted to post this cool pict my wife took.
One of those oncoming Fall nighttime skies.

I think the sale ended but LPG pro sensors are $55 on their site. They look a bit nicer.

We've had the Moose Fire burning in our backyard for weeks. Last night at ten, I stepped out on the front deck and saw this:

That's looking towards Salmon, ten miles to the north. So I jumped in my truck to see what was going on... we had a wind event with gusts to 40. When I got to town, I sat down on a friend's deck and this is what the bugger looked like --just above town.

The beast has burned 190 square miles. The crazy new baseline we live with. :frightened:

Wow! Are they going to evacuate the town?

Fortunately, the timber peters out a half mile or so above town. I know of a couple of homes at risk but I'm confident the Forest Service can prevent them from burning.

But to answer your question, there are some areas under evacuation notices. And it's cold this morning. 45º. That'll help.

Thanks, John. Hopefully, you'll have clear skies on your trip west.

I went to work today and missed my job. Where I turned around there was a Little Guy teardrop sitting. It was one of the tiny discontinued models but it looked like somebody has been enjoying it!

Today I am the captain of a cooking team doing a banquet for approximately 60 hungry men.

Last night I made several sauces and dips: a gallon of tartar sauce (which I could have just bought in bulk, but those who know me know I like to cook from scratch); a "special sauce" of ketchup, yellow mustard, dill relish and mayo, reminiscent of McDonald's Big Mac sauce for dipping cocktail wiener sized corn dog appetizers; California Onion Dip; and a scratch made veggie dip (w/ freshly grated lemon zest and random herbs and seasonings from the spice rack). Lastly, a seasoned crab/cream cheese mix with shredded Monterey jack, Parmesan, minced red and green bell pepper and chives, lemon zest/fresh squeezed lemon juice, Old Bays seasoning and a slight drizzle of agave syrup (to get the flavors to pop) that will go on sliced baguette and become a crab toast appetizer.

Also on the menu that we will prepare today: crab stuffed baked mushrooms; scratch made pizzas; corn chowder; pigs-in-a-blanket with a honey mustard dipping sauce; corn on the cob; tomato, cucumber, onion, balsamic vinegar salad; and 30 lbs of scallops fresh off the boat yesterday that we will flour with Fis-Chic and deep fry (served with the aforementioned tartar sauce). For dessert there is a bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce.

It will be a long day, but is always fun to get those creative cooking juices flowing. :D

Hmm, and we're only about 4.5 hours away from Southern Connecticut...

The whole thing went really well. People especially liked my tartar sauce and the mini corn dogs with "special sauce".
