Director Chair Canvas Repair

Postby Tomterrific » Sat Apr 11, 2020 8:04 am

An old director chair was getting too worn. While it was still functional the canvas was faded and looked bad. I went to our paint shelf and found two cans that must have been 20+ years old. One blue enamel and the other white (ish) wall paint. I stirred up the water on top and almost solid pigment on bottom and mixed a little in a dish. Wow! Just the blue I wanted.

The canvas was given two coats. The first soaked into the fabric and looked darker and blotchy. The second coat stayed on top. The final product is similar to leather in texture.

I have wanted to try painting fabric with latex paint for some time now. I knew about canvas being used on boat decks from older wood boats when I was young. The posts about PMF got me thinking about painted canvas again.

One project I've thought of attempting is a foam gun case with PMF. It could use a couple of old belts as hinges and latches. I have a beloved 9422 that could use a better case.
