Raising A Pickup Bed Cover

Postby Tomterrific » Sat Sep 19, 2020 7:15 am

We use a tonneau cover over the back of our pickup to keep stuff safe and dry. Some stuff is tough to fit under the cover so I wondered if the cover could be raised off the bed. Make the bed taller but still be able to see out the back window.

Has anyone done this crazy thing? I was thinking C-channel clamped to the bed and tonneau clamped to the C-channel.

Thanks,
Tt

That would work. I've seen people use 2x4's to raise tops.

Unless you can exactly match the cover sides or the pickup bed's side, it will never look good. Easier to start from scratch with a new higher bed cover.

How's your research so far? My buddy is having the same idea as well. He mentioned the design he got from the shop and we'll start working on it after we finished installing the brake pads and xd wheels onto the Wrangler. Personally, I would prefer a camper for the design instead.

You may wish to work through a foam build for the lift. Shape at will! Fiberglass or PMF over to weather seal. Paint to match truck or cover.

My first attempt with a foam build, I built the entire cap!

My first with the tent extension for the toilet.
