First outing for the TD since Christmas! .

Postby edgeau » Wed Sep 30, 2020 6:30 am

We were under covid restrictions at Easter so our booking had to be postponed. We are in great shape now in our state: only 5 active cases. We can have our big extended family trips again now. So to celebrate I tried a time lapse of the setup. I can't post the video here directly so I hope the link is OK.

Congratulations on getting out!

Here in New Mexico (USA) our state parks will re-open on October 1st, we're looking forward to it & perhaps a late fall camping trip.

Home now. What a shake out. I think my gear got the virus! I am buying lots of new stuff before the big Christmas New Year trip. So casualty list:
1. The fridge is on the blink. I woke up on morning 1 to find it barely cool, on investigation there was not much heat coming out the top of the absorption chamber. It runs on LPG and I could see a small flame under the chamber but then I spotted a second flame about 5cm (2 inches) further back along the line still inside the grille. Hmm that is not ment to be there. Shut off the gas cylinder and used it as an esky (ice chest or cooler) for the rest of the trip.
2. Fan is cactus. After an early morning Ski session we pull the boat out and have some quiet time during the heat of the day before the afternoon session. I was settling in for a nice nap when the fan let out that burning silicone smell and stopped. I was waiting for that to happen as it was an old battery operated tent fan I wired in just because I hate throwing out stuff that still works. It was a bit annoying as it hung low with the battery space above it. Happy to replace with something more suitable.
3. Folding bench seat gave up the ghost. My adult Nephew was prepping some veggies for dinner and ended up in the dust because the middle leg gave out. It was one of those moulded plastic jobs with metal frame and legs. I was toying with building something that stores better as it was too thick to slide in my underfloor storage. That has moved up the priority list now.
4. Butane burner has gone digital. I have one of those little burners that run on a small butane canisters to supplement the Webber Q and side burner for big meals. It decided it was only going to work at full or off, nothing in between. So instead of a nice analog control to dial heat up or down it is just on or off.
